Magic vines

You don’t have vines, but grass and flexible twigs work as well. The spell is basically the same, you just have to change the runes for vines with them for branches. Despite the monster in front of you, you get calm and let the magic flow through your body. A circle of green light appears in your hand and the runes you think about appear in it.

The chimera gets angry and rushes forward to attack you. At the same time the last rune appears and the circle vanishes. You focus on the chimera to show the spell what it should capture. And the result follows immediately. Hundreds of grass holms suddenly come to live. They grow fast under the chimera and wrap around it’s pawns. The chimera struggles and fights with the holms and with its own balance.

However, the nature is not done yet. The trees around begin to move. One at each side bows lightly and their branches reach out for the chimera. Thick roots come from the ground and begin to slowly grow around the chimera. Even for this monster, there is no way it could break through the bigger branches and roots. You almost think you had captured it, when the chimera suddenly proves one more time that it is much smarter than an average animal.

Seeing no other way out, the chimera stops ripping at the grass bounds and instead uses its mouth. The sharp teeth on one side of its jaw get under the tied pawn and with a careful bite, the grass gets cut and the pawn is free. It repeats this a second time and immediately jumps out of the danger. The remaining bounds are not able to hold the chimera in place.

This was close. You almost had it. But in the end, you just managed to get the monster more angry. It is now constantly moving while growling at you, so you can’t use the spell again. Or at least not that easy. Well, you got some more time to decide for your next spell. You have to try something different. You could still create a magic weapon with the grass and twigs around you. Or you try to connect with the chimeras animalic nature and put it under your command.
