Lux puts up a good fight, but not good enough

Hoping to silence the bandit before he can raise the alarm, Lux makes a quick lunge. She’s fast and has sheer desperation on her side – she slashes at his weapon arm, buying vital seconds before he can get his club ready, and springs in to press whatever small advantage she has for the moment.

She manages to get a couple of quick cuts past his armour – nothing more than flesh wounds, but he’s forced to use both hands to ward off her attacks, keeping her from going after his head and neck. All she needs is one good opening to end this…

Then, out of nowhere, there’s a sudden pain as he manages to grabs hold of her wrist. At that point, her speed doesn’t matter nearly as much as his weight and strength. He twists her arm, forcing the blunt sword out of her grip; through the haze of adrenaline, determination starts giving way to panic. And then she feels a blow to her stomach that doubles her over, making her see stars. Just when victory had seemed so close…
