It would be a reach but if you move fast enough you can probably finish it off before it reacts. You leap, drawing your arm up for a sweep to decapitate the dazed imp who unfortunately seemed to make up for in reflexes what he lacked in smarts. He jumped, straight up, just barely clearing your knife with his feet but not quite managing to flick his tail out of the way.

"YYEARGH!!!"

The imp's screech is earsplitting, making your relief at having disabled its primary means of attack bittersweet as you pray that the noise doesn't carry through the tangled network of passages surrounding you. You take another swipe as it cartwheels overhead but miss on account of fiendish blood spattering across your eyes, momentarily blinding you. A burst of divine power, uncharacteristically **** in flavor, burns the stinging ichor from your face and reveals the imp standing atop the cage, hissing demonic profanity and brandishing what looks like a small nail at you. You realize with horror that it's the pin that held the door in place on the gate.

The monstrosity inside shudders, as though waking from a trance, and seems to behold its surroundings for the first time. Your skin crawls as its vaguely simian "head" turns and fixates on you, before demon blood drips across its misshapen features and it slowly looks up. The imp's enraged cursing quiets as it realizes it has made a grave mistake in positioning. There is zero warning as a thick tendril shoots out of the creatures skin, approximately where you would have said its forehead should have been, seizing the imp before it can so much as scream and yanking it back down through the bars. Rather than causing it any harm, or even eating it as you might have expected, the imp is simply enveloped by the rubbery mass without a trace. It's attention once more turns to you as its black, slimy form takes on an eerily similar pigment to the demon it just consumed.
