Chapter 106

What's Next?
Lunch!
I smile reading my new Draconic skills and check the time. I see that lunch is about to start and quickly swap my equipment before returning to school. I flush the toilet and go wash my hands when I hear the bell ring. I leave the bathroom and go to the cafeteria. I sit down and start eating the lunch Asami made. I feel my phone vibrate and open it, seeing I got a new text.
Asami: Hey Eric, me and Luna are going to the store. We want to get some extra blankets and a wardrobe for our clothes.
Me: Got it. Remember to take the card I gave you! And keep Luna close, I don't want her to beat up any unlucky dudes that try to hit on her.
Asami: Of course. I'll see you when you get home!
I put my phone away and nearly jump out of my seat when someone starts talking.
"Who are you texting?" I hear Myla ask.
"Jesus, when did you get here?" I ask putting my hand on my chest. I hear Hino laugh and answer for Myla.
"We just got here, did you not hear us greet you and sit down?"
"No, I guess not. And to answer your question I was texting Asami. She and Luna are going to get some stuff from the store."
"Oh, I'm glad you got them a phone. Do they know how to buy stuff? I remember both of them grew up under very secluded conditions." Myla asks a bit hesitant to reference the girls upbringings.
"Yeah Asami knows how, I gave her a credit card to use."
"Why did you do that? Not that I think it's a bad idea, I just never would've thought of it." Hino asks, taking a bite out of her apple.
"I did it so they could get tampons and the whatever else they'll need for that. I don't have any clue what to get with that so I figured it'd be best to let them decide." I say before taking a bite of my chicken rice. "So, is there any reason why your sitting here?"
"Not really." Myla answers. "We just thought that if we're going to be fighting together we might as well get to know one another."
"So Eric, with that in mind I have a question. Why did you come to Starose Academy?" Myla asks me, taking a bite from her sandwich.
"My gramps wanted me to. I didn't plan on continuing school but he was pretty persistent. What about you two? I know school can get in the way of other stuff so why'd you guys come here?" I ask, finishing off my rice.
"My parents insisted that I get an education. And since Starose has such a good reputation and results they had me go here while we're looking into the Litch King." Hino answers with a smile.
"I'm pretty much the same. My dad keeps telling me that to be a good guild leader I need to be educated. Apparently though the Lyna world still respects those that graduated from high end schools like this one." Myla answers with a sigh before continuing. "I know this is important because of that but I just hate all the studying I have to do." Hino laughs and nods her head.
"Yeah, you can say that again. I can't tell you how many all lighters I pull to study before a test." The two girls laugh and I look at them a but confused.
"Do you two study that often?" They look at me confused hearing my question before Myla responds.
"Do you not?"
"Not really no." I say shaking my head. "I can count on my left hand the amount of times I've studied since coming here." Hino looks at me in disbelief and shock.
"What kind of grades do you get?"
"A's and B's. I got a 95% on a pop quiz in history the other day." Hino and Myla look at me in disbelief.
"I'm calling BS." Myla says looking straight at me. I put up my hands and sigh.
"It's the truth, believe it not but it won't change the facts. Anyway, I have a question for you two." Myla sighs and shrugs, then gestures for me to continue. "How was it growing up with magic and the knowledge of the Lyna world?"
"Oh it wasn't much different that normal. We just had to train in magic and combat while growing up. We weren't told anything about the dark side of the Lyna world, or at least I wasn't. Thanks to this I grew very fond of magic as a child and that fondness has been hardwired into me. Like we told you before, it wasn't until recently that we were allowed to enter dungeons and even then, we had to go in with either our parents or a bodyguard." Myla answers, Hino nods and says she agrees with her. "Eric, what was your childhood like?" Her question catches me off guard. I sigh and take a deep breath, not really wanting to talk about it.
"Well I've told you how my parents passed when I was young right?" I ask the two girls and they nod. "Well I don't really remember much before that. Afterwards I stayed with my gramps but he was busy with his historical preservation company so I basically lived by myself. Growing up was fine, I never really struggled with anything in school so I mostly just did what I found fun at the time. Then one day after high school my gramps tells me to come here and practically forces me to enroll." Hino laughs a bit hearing this.
"He must care about you." I remember how he greeted me this time. When he attacked me in the morning and I knocked him on his ass.
"He's got a funny way of showing it." I say laughing, causing them to look at me confused. The bell rings and we stand up. I tell the girls bye and head to my science class.
