Lucky Fall

A whirl and rush and wind. Her world turned and spun, she couldn't make out anything as the pair fell. And a sudden leathery impact, Jessica felt all her muscle, sinew, and most all bone, compact upon hit. Strangely the ground seemed to give a fair amount.
Jessica blinked her eyes.
She was alive, sore in many ways, but she had survived the drop. With a start, Jessica realized the ground was in fact not ground, but the leathery body of the brute that had forced itself upon her, which she had landed on, saving her life by chance. The brute was still, so Jessica decided to leave the beast be and take count of her surroundings.

Getting up off the corpse, Jessica's feet met cloying mud, giving the feeling of being grabbed by the very earth. But the soil was solid enough, once you pushed past 5 inches of what she prayed was mud.

Looking at the brute, Jessica felt a degree of satisfaction that her struggle were not for nothing. She kicked the brute. It didn't flinch or exhale, her attacker was dead. The impossibility of it all strained her mind. First seeing the beasts, experiencing the beasts, surviving the fall. All to end up in the gutters of this damned city.
Jessica looked around. Were these canals or a sewer system? Jessica was never sure. High walls damp walls bounded her on two sides, support beams overhead, and she could just see the moon overhead. Again Jessica found herself lost in it. Her feelings of victory, degradation, and incedulousness sapped from her in its perfect eye, staring back at her.
Breathing out a sigh. She centered herself. She could still get out of this.

Nearby where the scraps of her clothes the beast had stripped from her. Sodden, the skirt and cowl were recoverable. Leaving her highly exposed, but not entirely indecent. Having clothes on felt good, more human and normal again, heartening Jessica.

One way led into a pipe, but there appeared to be some more apparatus related with plumbing on the wall. The other way opened up and seemed to lead to a larger room with some scaffolding on the side.
