Chapter 16 by GreenBean GreenBean

Plan of action?

Head toward the scaffolding.

Armed with nothing, bruised and sore inside and out. Jessica limped her way through the muck. It was a wrong kind of quiet down here, where the your loud yet ineffective actions echo softly back, masking other noises in the din of your impatience and lack of grace.
Jessica grit her teeth. She had survived that ogre of a beast, two rounds the the less, she was not to die here. She needed to get higher, and the scaffolding was her best chance.

Jessica climbed a short ramp before coming upon where the scaffolding was built. A surge of dim hope went through her when she saw a solid metal ladder alongside the scaffolding, leading her away from the miss.

Her gaze upward brought her eyes to the moon, which again enraptured her, steeling her resolve, and leaving her feeling all too trapped in her mortal frame. She exhaled, pulling her eyes away. She knew she would survive this night, this nightmare, whatever it took.

With a hand on the ladder, she took a glance further around the room she was about to leave. Too numb to be shocked, she saw the room was strewn with bodies, sunken into the mud. But, in the very middle, appeared to be a dead would-be hunter, with a bandoleer partially filled with vials much the same as the strange hunter had used to heal his wounds. Jessica felt a hunger to have such tools at her own disposal, home was a long way and she was already hurt. But, she wasn't sure she'd even have the strength to go the ten yards and back with the mud as thick as it were. As best she could tell, it got even deeper where the man was.

Worth the walk?
