Loopholes

Upon arriving at work the next day, you make your way to Rachel’s office. She smiles as you walk in, and laughs to herself.

“It seems I’ve seen a lot of you lately, Brian! Hopefully it’s nothing bad this time?”

You shake your head. “No, nothing bad, just a question.”

“A question, you say? Well, ask away, I’m happy to answer.”

You nod. “Kenna has been asking me to teach her how to drive, and I was wondering if that’s allowed.”

Rachel smiles. “Well, it’s a bit complicated, actually. As far as teaching her, of course, no one can stop you! But getting her a license is a bit more difficult.”

You frown. “More difficult, meaning…?”

Rachel sighs. “Because of how the AWIO is set up, we’re technically an embassy for a foreign country as far as the government is concerned. This means that none of the people from the old world are considered citizens. Now, we have special permits to allow what happens, but unless Kenna goes through the process of becoming a citizen, she won’t be able to get a license to drive.”

You nod. “I suppose that makes sense. And I imagine that getting that done is not as simple as it sounds?”

Rachel gives a slight smile. “I always knew you were a smart guy. That’s right. Because of the nature of monster girls, and the fact that they’re not technically human, the laws are a bit fuzzy. That makes it easy for the people who dislike monster girls to reject any advances for them.”

You sigh and shake your head. “That’s incredibly frustrating.”

She nods. “It is. However, because of the ambiguity in those same laws, there’s a loophole that you have available, if you’re willing.”

You raise an eyebrow. “And that is?”

Rachel smiles. “It’s a bit of a leap, but…you could marry her.”

You blink in surprise. “Wait, what?”

Rachel laughs. “You heard me. I know it sounds weird, but hear me out. Marriage grants many privileges to the spouse, including citizenship. In addition, because of the ambiguity I mentioned, you would be able to marry all of the girls you have around you, as long as there’s only one other human. It’s a loophole in the way the law is written.”

You think for a moment, a bit surprised by the suggestion, and by the fact that you have never thought of this before. You love all the girls dearly, and you can’t imagine not having them around, but marrying them all? It seems like a big step.

Rachel smiles. “I can see I caught you off guard. Just think about it for a while. It’s an option you have. I only mention it because I’ve seen how you are with them.”

You slowly nod. “It’s true, it does make sense, it’s just very sudden, and not something I have considered before.”

Rachel shrugs. “Well, give it some thought. My advice is to talk it over with Mazzy. That girl knows what she’s doing.”

You laugh. “You’re telling me! Thanks Rachel, you’ve given me a lot to think about.”
