Loopholes go only so far

There was no way my arrival went without notice, no way at all. I must have passed right above that city while I was looking like a fucking green meteor! A city of that size in a fantasy world like this definitely has some small adjunct Guild Hall for a major city's adventuring guild and it’s chock full of low-level adventurers who want to go and prove themselves, and they just saw that, and as soon as the sun sets they are going to see the local landmark just became a giant glowing beacon of fuckery.

I couldn’t just decimate the town, assuming not every city and town is full of people having chosen a side, I would have to find a way to subjugate it and convince it to follow me WITHOUT killing anyone who wasn’t sworn to the light or the dark…damn, I picked a ballache of an Oath, didn’t I?

At least infiltrating won’t be hard, I have a human form that I got from picking said Oath. With a simple thought, I made myself shift into a nearly seven-foot tall humanoid form, an athletic and well-toned male-bodied form, with long hair the same color as my dark metallic scales, brilliantly green eyes, sharp but handsome features, and a near-foot-long memb- I have no clothes on.

“Well I have an armory and a bedroom, maybe I have some clothes in there…fuck I hope so or this is gonna be an interesting time.”

I rocketed back down to the bottom floor, apparently, my wings weren’t needed for flight to work, think that has to do with being a sorcerer. I quickly walked down the hallway leading to the bedroom, hoping to find something in there. I was surprised, though I guess I shouldn’t have been, to see how luxurious and well-appointed this bedroom was. Very much in the same style as the rest of the place, dark silvers and blacks, a green fire raging in the fireplace and burning on a few candles that didn’t seem to burn down.

I walked over to the large dresser and opened it, letting out a sigh of relief as I saw an outfit appear before my eyes. A long plain black cloak, and a loose green tunic with a brown belt and black pants, darkly colored traveling boots that were either grey or black, couldn’t quite tell in the light down here. I would look like a pretty commonplace traveler clothing-wise, though I’ve got to say, I was hot enough to stand out. Especially looking at myself in the mirror, I made some solid choices.

“I really need to come up with a faster way to get around-” A black and green swirling portal appeared in the door, I knew instinctively it would lead to the top, “The dungeon…rad.”

I stepped through and sighed as I looked towards the city, “Alright, fly low to the ground so no one sees me, and then stop behind one of the hills just outside the city before walking in to explore, let’s see what we’re working with…” I turned and called down the pit towards all my working thrall and said, “Once you have completely fortified the Dungeon, continue patrolling its upper reaches until I return, no one patrols outside the dungeon as of yet.” I got a feeling that they understood, and a number of them that had begun making their way up to patrol as I had originally ordered, refocused.

“Love that…alright let’s go.” With a smile I leaped from the side of the mountain and let myself plummet nearly to the ground before suddenly straightening and flying across the grasslands, leaving a wake in the grass beneath me as the air rushed around me. In this instant, I felt more alive than I had during my entire lifetime on Earth. The power, the freedom, the simplicity of this grand feat.

At the speed I was going the two-day walk was reduced to just a little over an hour. I made sure to land just outside the town, behind a hill so no one would see me. I shake off the excitement of flying and take a few deep breaths, only allowing the worry about speaking the same language to hang for a few seconds before starting to walk towards the nearest gate into the city.

There stood two human guards by this smaller gate, allowing a few other travelers through, apparently Elves if I had to guess by just glancing at them. When I stepped up they both put a hand up.

“Halt, what’s your business in Port Carik?” said the older of the two.

“Just a traveler passing through that’s all. I’m new to the area, looking for a place to settle for a little bit perhaps.” I said with a smile.

“Hmf…be careful and don’t cause any issues, vagrant.” said the younger guard, the older one rolling his eyes.

“No need to be rude, welcome to Carik wanderer, if you’re looking for work or a place to stay, there's a branch of the kingdom’s main adventuring corps near the docks.”

Fucking called it

“Thanks for the tip, have a good day,” I say with a smile and nod of my head, as I walk through the gates and with a smirk start glancing around this small portion of Port Carik. Adventurers mean people who serve the Light, a state-sanctioned adventuring corp means the state is aligned with the Light in an official sense. This city and its guard and its adventurers are not nonaligned, which makes conquering a bit simpler…

But as I make that jump in logic I feel a lance of pain in my head making me wince, that was too much of a jump. The adventurers have chosen a side, but the guards are just doing their job. I’d have to ‘take’ this city in a more clever way.

Time to find this adventuring corp headquarters I guess…
