Looking for clues

Despite the initial determination, the women found themselves sat outdoors at a cafe, while The Superintendent fiddled at a device she had pulled from a surprisingly large pocket, something which had the appearance of a Nintendo Switch but with more controls, and several aerials.

"Do you know what exactly you're looking for?" Amy asked, sipping a cup of tea.

"Of course... more or less." The Superintendent replied, looking up from her device and casting her eyes around. They were on a side street not far from Covent Garden, which had a fair amount of foot traffic, "I'm looking for an unknown energy type."

"Unknown, so you don't know where it comes from or how to track it?"

"Yes, but I'll know it because I won't know it."

"Uh-huh." Amy nodded, then looked at the elaborate milkshake The Superintendent had ordered, a tall glass of pink with whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry on top, "Are you going to drink that?"

The Superintendent raised the straw to her lips and sucked up half the milkshake in one long draw.

"Wow." Amy smiled, "If you keep doing that, it's a wonder you can fit in your clothes. Mind you, you can't always, like that time on Skaro..."

"It was an old shirt." The Superintendent interjected.

"You managed to burst all your buttons open! Although you did take out three Dalek eye stalks with those flying buttons."

"It was a tactical wardrobe malfunction."

The devicd suddenly came to life, The Superintendent looked at it curiously.

"Energy readings rising. Not strong enough to get a fix yet..." she looked around again, "Where are they coming from?"

Across the road from them, a young dark-haired woman exited a shop, pausing in the doorway to check her phone before moving on. Unfortunately for her, the door had closed on her long black skirt, and as she stepped away it tore with a loud ripping sound, leaving her in a white t-shirt and pink thong, to the amusement of the other people on the street.

"There!" The Superintendent exclaimed.

"What, that girl in her knickers?"

"The energy readings are spiking around her." The Superintendent stood, grabbing her milkshake and draining the rest of it as she did, then put the glass back on the table, "She's connnected."

The embarrassed woman was already fleeing, her face red with humiliation at being in the middle of the street with no skirt on, so the two women struggled to follow her, darting around other people who seemed to keep getting in her way.

"I can't see her anymore!" Amy said after a couple of minutes of running.

"I think she went... I think she's..." The Superintendent trailed off and came to a halt, "I think we lost her." She looked at her device again, "The energy's subsided again. But there was something here, somewhere."
