Chapter 44 by Almax Almax

What are you doing?

Look around for where Cameron and Lexi are hanging out!

{if@ Sorority == False}You walk around for a little bit, but it doesn't really take that long to find where they are -- {if@ Free Time > 1}Lunch hasn't officially started yet, so with how loud Lexi can be it's pretty easy to find your fellow free-period-having first years.{else}Even though Lunch has started now, so there are other students hanging around the space, Lexi's still pretty loud when she's having fun.{endif} They're both sitting at a table in the Food Court right now, having a good time chatting and laughing. You want in!

{if@ Free Time > 1}It's pretty weird how empty the Food Court is at the moment -- there are still some student workers, as well as some full-time hired workers, and there's the occasional customer who's either a third year or also on a free period right now (not many of those! This time slot is pretty special to you guys.), but it's still kind of strange with how few of the tables have people sitting in them.{else}You sort of have to weave through people to get up to them, because there's a lot of people rushing around with trays between tables right now, but you're very careful and don't cause even one accident. Hey, some of that stuff looks pretty good.... the smell of hot chips fills your nose as one person walks by you, with their tray right at your short head level, and then another tray -- w-was that a green milkshake? No, seriously, that was like -- not even a dark smoothie colour, it was like lime green, and in a milkshake container! What flavour even is that? Lime? Lime would make sense, since....{endif}

Anyway, once you're within a little bit of the table, Cameron sees you and gives you a smile, then points you out to Lexi, who waves you over. When you reach the table, Cameron's gone off to {if@ Free Time>1}grab you{else}find you{endif} a chair from one of the other tables.

Lexi, still sitting at the table and now eagerly slurping the last of her milkshake through the straw loudly, somehow found time to change into a different shirt on her way over here. Unless she just wears the casual one under the button-up one, which would be pretty smart and you should try it! This one's a bright purple shortsleeve, which stops just above her belly button and holds quite snugly to her athletic body. It says "TACO" on the top in black ****-metal style lettering, and "CAT" on the bottom in the same lettering, with a black overly-shaded image in the middle of a tabby cat eating a taco, with the shadows of its forehead covering its eyes, but it's also smiling. It's probably enjoying the taco.

With a final loud slurp, Lexi pulls her head back from the straw with a big smack of her lips and slams the metal milkshake cup down against the table. "Hey Debbie!" She greets happily.

"Good?" You ask and point to the now-empty cup, as you sit down in the chair Cam just brought over for you.

Lexi licks her lips and looks up at you. "Caramel!"

"S-so no." Cameron explains, sitting back down in his own chair. "She loves caramel milkshakes, but only during the moment of drinking them, because she says the aftertaste sucks."

"Bingo!" Lexi nods happily. "You listened!"

"I-I really do think that the entire building got to listen, Lexi." Cameron looks over to you with a smile that half greets you warmly and half thanks you for the backup. It's nice to see that Cameron's starting to get so much more comfortable around {if@ Cameron's Impression >65}you and{endif} Lexi.

"So what were you guys talking about earlier?" You ask with a smile, rocking your chair back and forth a bit on its back legs. It's such a relief to have friends like this after only one week -- you were really worried that it wouldn't happen, since you didn't get on with many people at school and classes are so much smaller here.

"Delilah, man." Lexi says excitedly. "Those flips were mental! It'd have been impressive even if she wasn't chaining in hits as well, but she was doing both! What'd you make of that?"

The more Lexi talks, the more excited you can see her getting. It's hard not to smile seeing it, but then it becomes easy again when you need to respond. You look down at the tabletop.

"Mmm." You mmm.

Sure, it was sort of cool as an action, but that doesn't mean it was cool to see. Delilah's always so mean to you, and knowing how much further ahead she is than you already is sort of disheartening.

"Right? That's what I'm saying!" Lexi leans back in her chair. "It's gonna be so much fun."

"What is?" You lift your head to ask.

"Lexi says that we should all work together until we're all better than her." Cameron explains. "B-because she's an absurdly competitive person." Cameron's voice when he says that second part is just barely shaky enough to show you that he's still testing the speaking-waters for sharks, but that's still another step closer to confidence!

Lexi extends her finger from across the table and points over at Cameron. She waggles the finger a bit, then slowly curls it back into the rest of her hand again. "Fair."

It's sort of a good point, though. Maybe it would be better for you to focus less on her being better than you are right now, and more on you becoming better than you are right now. Hey, yeah, that's a good way to think about it for sure!

The three of you chat for a while longer, but not really about anything important, it's just having fun. Cameron orders a burger and absolutely demolishes it, like full polishes it off in half a minute, it's mad, and then he gets all bashful when you point it out. Lexi thinks that's funny. The three of you share the chips that came with Cam's burger, even though Lexi also ordered a thing of lasagne for herself.

Overall, it's a pretty fun time, and once you're all finished Lexi forces you and Cameron to be quiet and let her pay.

"How else am I gonna win you over?" She asks you with a sly grin, as she scooches out of her chair and takes some money out from her backpack. "Heck, if you're not down to be my wife, I'd settle for sugar baby."

...............After that, you all head out of the Food Court together, then say goodbye and split off in different ways. Lexi says that she's going to the gymnasium to work on something, which is weird because it'll probably be locked, but that sorta explains her change of clothes. Cameron heads back off to your room. And as for you......

{elseif Sorority == True}Hmmm.... you've walked around for a good amount of time now, and you still haven't bumped into them. Maybe they aren't actually out somewhere right now? Detective Debbie can't have been wrong, right? Hmmm....

"Yo, Debbie!" Someone calls out as you patrol the university corridors and brood like a detective. You hesitate as to whether you should respond or stay in character, but it'd be rude to just ignore, so after a brief deliberation you decide to turn around. Good work too, because it's Lexi who said it!

She's walking in front of Cameron, who she's holding by the wrist and dragging along. He looks pretty neutral about it. They're both still in normal school uniform right now, which probably makes sense since not much time's passed yet.

When she reaches you, she tugs forward on Cameron's arm, sending him a few steps forward to stand right up next to the two of you.

"Hey guys!" You beam happily. You're still sort of tired, but you're nonetheless glowing with enthusiasm and good feels.

Lexi thumbs over to Cameron, who's just looking at his shoes right now. She's got that usual wide grin on her face. "This idiot forgot his staff when we dipped from class. If Miranda had any interest in learning staff combat, I wouldn't have even gotten the chance to kick his ass properly!"

"I actually won." Cameron says. He's still looking at his shoes, but he's speaking at normal volume and his voice isn't wavering at all. Hey, does that mean he's feeling more confident around you guys? "Pretty handily, to be honest."

Lexi lets out a huge laugh for about a second, slapping Cameron on the back of the head lightly, then immediately cuts it short and locks her eyes back on you with a bright, warm smile. "He also didn't tell me why we dipped from class."

"O-oh...." You stammer, trying to think of a proper response. "Ummm...."

Lexi claps her hands together suddenly. "Oh! I have an idea!" Lexi smiles over between you and Cameron both, and when Cameron's still looking down at her shoes, she pokes him with her elbow until he looks up and back at her. Then she continues. "Since you got all that one-on-one time, why don't we go get the staffs from the gym and you can show us what you learned with some sparring?"

Eep! That's not a good idea! You gulp, and look over at Cameron, then back at Lexi again, then over to Cameron again. Cameron shrugs. Thanks, Cameron. Before you need to respond, though, Lexi just starts laughing.

"Nah, let's just go grab some food and sit down somewhere." Lexi baps you on the shoulder gently, then takes you and Cameron by the wrist again and just starts walking over towards the Food Court. You decide it's probably in your best interests to follow along, and feel a sudden urge to check out your shoes.

At last you're all taken to the Food Court, and sat down at a table. Lexi goes off to buy a huge bowl of chips for you all to share, leaving just you and Cameron at the table.

"She's really hyper right now, because the rest of our class just kind of went off to do their own things after we went out of the gymnasium." Cameron explains. "We sparred for a while, but then she wanted to climb a tree, so we did that. I think the oxygen might've been too thin up there or something."

"Even Miranda left? And Jace too?" You ask.

You can't imagine Miranda leaving class early. She just seems so studious, even if she does hate combat class! And- well, you guess this sort of means you can only really picture Delilah doing it, which is a bit exclusionary, but still, it doesn't really feel like Jace'd leave early either.

"Yeah, but Miranda left to do some other study, she said. And Jace was pulled off by Delilah." Cameron pauses. "L-like taken away I mean, she took him with her when she left."

Oohh, that makes sorta sense then. You nod, to communicate that it makes sorta sense. Cameron leans to the side to look over at Lexi, who's still in line right now, then leans in closer to you and speaks in a quieter voice.

"Hey, how did your thing go? Is everything alright now?"

You nod again, this time with a bigger smile, and to communicate something else. "Yeppers! Thanks to you, everything went well! And I'm, umm, pretty sure that everything's alright now too."

The two of you chat for a bit, and it's pretty cool, because Cameron seems a lot more open than he was at the start of the week now (even if he still sometimes goes shy and quiet). Lexi eventually comes back to your table with a huge bowl of chips, and it's a whole thing, because you're not sure if you'll be able to eat it all even with three of you. Plus, Lexi wants to put tomato sauce all over the top of it, but Cameron doesn't really like tomato sauce with his chips, so you end up getting a little plate to put a big pile of tomato sauce on to dip from. But then that creates the problem of double dipping for you and Lexi after you've bitten it, so you have to do these huge dips to begin with, and that depletes the pile really quick, so you're constantly topping it up. Anyway, the chips taste great, and Lexi eats so many of them that the bowl does actually get finished after you and Cameron are full.

"Skipped breakfast." She explains, licking the salt off of her lips before going through each finger and sucking the last of the chip essence off of them. "Still beat Cameron at sparring. Might get a burger too, actually."

"I destroyed her at sparring."

"I got to the highest branch faster."

"We weren't racing!"

"And I ate more chips than both of you too."

Lexi does end up getting herself another burger. You're quieter than you'd usually be, because you're mainly just using this as a chance to sit back in the chair and relax while your body makes some more cum for you (since you're pretty sure you ran out). Still, it's a pretty good time, and it's fun listening to your two friends talking. A-also, it helps you forget about all of that dirty stuff that you did.

Eventually, your time at the Food Court comes to a close. Lexi gets up from her seat and hoists her backpack over her shoulder. "I'm gonna go do some secret stuff. I might even involve one of two friends without telling either of them what it's about, if I feel up to it. Later!"

W-wait, does that mean she's mad at you, then? It's sort of hard to tell, since she's always smiling so much, but that sounded kind of like she might be mad at you..... hopefully she's not really.

She gives you both a wave, and just you a little eskimo kiss which makes you feel sort of embarrassed, and then heads off out of the Food Court. Cameron says goodbye as well, and goes to make his way back to your shared room. As for you? Well, you........{endif}

Guess what? Do you wanna say it, or should I again? Oh, alright, I'll say it again (this is my favourite part):
