Lois Wins Again

Lois: A♠

Blaze: 10♣

The demon gracefully slid the second platinum soul chip across the table. Lois kept her face neutral as the scarlet succubus reshuffled the cards. She knew her luck couldn't last forever...but she was willing to suffer a few losses if it meant achieving her goal, and her luck had held so far.

The cards were placed back on the table. Lois cut them again.

Lois: J♣

Blaze: 5♥

A third soul chip slid across the table. Lois thought that Blaze was taking the losses coolly. Yet one more win, and the reporter could stand up, free from all restraints...and with a bigger bust to go with it. Very calmly, the demon set the deck before her, and once again Lois cut the cards.

Lois: 3♠

Blaze: 2♥

Tension drained out of the reporter's shoulders as the fourth and final soul chip crossed the table. Lois sat back, marveling at her luck.

"So...the women are free?" Lois said, if only to assure herself.

"Yes," Blaze gave that strange half-smile as she began to shuffle the cards again. "My congratulations. You're a very cool player. Not everyone would have seen that game through to the end."

Lois acknowledged the compliment with a slight inclination of her head...but she couldn't help but ask, in a curious way.

"I sense a 'but' coming."

The demon's smile grew a little wider, showing white teeth. "No buts, Lois Lane. You won fair and square."

She set the reshuffled deck of cards on the table.

"Want to keep playing?"

Lois hesitated. This felt like a trap. "What do I win, if I do win?"

Blaze's pure white eyes caught and held hers. "You've experienced a few changes since you sat down...if you win, you get to make one change of your own. If you want something bigger, say. Or if you want to leave with the same measurements you started out with. As before, you can get up and leave at any time."

Lois hesitated. She thought of her bigger bust...and what other changes she might make, if given the opportunity for some personal enhancement without surgery. It seemed too good to be true.
