Likes, Comments, and Constructive Feedback

Chapter 3 by Mr.B.

Likes, comments, and constructive feedback

Feedback tells authors what connected with a reader and can help them decide where to take a branch next. CHYOA provides likes, chapter discussions, replies, and the Story Feedback forum for different kinds of feedback.

Like a chapter

Choose Like below a chapter when you enjoyed it. The button changes to Liked, and choosing it again removes your like.

A like belongs to that chapter. There is no negative-rating button. If something did not work for you, a respectful comment is more useful than a rating because it lets the author understand why.

You can also like individual comments in a discussion.

Comment on the chapter you are reading

Choose Comments or Write Comment on a story page. New comments are attached to the current chapter.

The discussion area has two views:

  • Chapter comments shows discussion attached to the chapter you are reading.
  • All comments shows discussion from across the story.

Choose Reply when responding to a particular comment. This keeps the conversation connected to the person and point you are answering.

Give useful feedback

Good feedback is specific, respectful, and about the work rather than the author. For example:

  • “The choice at the end made both paths feel tempting.”
  • “I lost track of who was speaking in the second conversation.”
  • “I would enjoy seeing what happens if the reader refuses the offer.”

It is fine to explain what you disliked, but do not insult the author, demand an update, or present your personal preference as a site rule. Authors decide whether and how to use suggestions.

Before posting, check whether your comment reveals a surprise that later readers may not want spoiled. A brief spoiler warning can help when discussing an important turn.

Continue a longer discussion on the forum

The CHYOA Forum is better suited to detailed planning and conversations that go beyond one chapter:

Forum posts are public community discussions. Follow the forum rules as well as CHYOA's Community Code of Conduct.

Report rule violations instead of debating them

If a chapter may violate the Content Rules, open Chapter actions and choose Report Chapter. Describe the relevant material and where it appears.

To report conduct connected to an account, open that user's profile, open the additional-actions menu, and choose Report user. Reports are for possible rule or safety problems, not ordinary disagreements about writing style.
