Chapter 15 by throwaway1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0a throwaway1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0a

How does the afternoon go?

Level ten, at last.

Kai washed his face with cold water and wrote down the three new quests. Even if he knew he was doing something bad, something wrong, he wouldn’t, couldn’t stop.

A part of him wanted to say that it was all the app’s fault, that it had slowly corrupted him, just like he had corrupted his targets. But in truth, whatever magic the app used just brought the monsters inside him out, it didn’t create them from nothing.

Quest: College services.

Description: Skip class and go to the bathrooms of the old building to fuck whoever wants to pay.

Reward: + 10 “whore popularity” in college.

Quest: Consider this an investment.

Description: Now that you have a whore, you should probably get a class to help manage it. Send me 1000$ and I will return your investment nicely.

Reward: Pimp class + 2 fairly lucrative quests.

Was it dishonest to demand payment for something he was planning to do anyways? yes.

Did he care? not really.

Quest: Afternoon between books.

Description: You had a fun weekend, but those exams aren't going to pass themselves, study at least three hours this afternoon.

Reward: Perk: Academic prowess I.

Academic prowess I: Doubles the efficiency of all your study sessions. [Hidden: Studying becomes mildly entertaining.]

Kai stared at his phone for a moment before clicking “confirm” he could have given Luke a better perk, one that would effectively make him instantly pass any exam. The problem was the hidden effect, he would end up locking himself in his room just to study, and that was the opposite of what he wanted.

Having finished his duties as a quest master, Kai took out his notes from class and started studying. A part of him thought that it was stupid to go to college now that he had been granted godlike powers, but this was as good entertainment as any other.

“I’ll save my skill points for once I get my class, as long as these guys do their quests, I should be able to get level ten before sending them their night quests.”

.

Vanessa Stein completed her quest successfully [+ 5 XP]

Jack Brown completed his quest successfully [+ 3 XP]

Luke Strays completed his quest successfully [+ 3 XP]

“Shit!” Kai cursed his luck when he saw his level, once again he was just three points shy of leveling up.

“Hmmm, apparently Jack doesn’t mind giving me money… good to know!” Kai Mutered as he gave him the “Pimp” class, just as he had promised.

Jack Brown has received the class: Pimp.

Jack Brown’s level has resetted to 1.

Jack Brown’s Whore management I has been upgraded to whore management II.

From now on, Jack Brown will receive additional experience when completing quests related to his class.

Achievement unlocked: Named slickback!

Give a target the “Pimp” class [+ 3 XP]

Kai stared at his phone with a deadpan expression, there had been no achievement when he gave Luke his class, so either this was a fun reference from whoever had made the app, or they just wanted him to reach level ten today.

Level up! [+ 1 perk point]

Achievement unlocked: Speedrun

Reach level 10 in less than a week [+ 1 perk point]

Either way, he wasn’t going to ignore such a generous gift, especially not today.

Not wanting to give his benefactors a chance to change their mind, Kai opened the Quest Master's class menu.

- Master editor: Obtain Character editor I and II, if you have any of them, get refounded perk points equivalent to their cost.

Class bonus: Character editor cooldown is reduced by half.

- Stealth master: Obtain Public unawareness and Stealth mode, if you already have any of them, get refounded perk points equivalent to their cost.

Class bonus: Stealth mode can now be activated on any target, doesn’t matter if they were already targets or not.

- Master hierarchy: Obtain the Subordinate perk, if you already have it, get refounded perk points equivalent to its cost.

Class bonus: Subordinated masters can be forcefully commanded to obey the “head” questmaster.

- Reward addict: Obtain the Additional reward perk, as well as two additional perk points, if you already have it, get refounded perk points equivalent to its cost.

Class bonus: Quest rewards cannot be perceived as negative.

- Fisher: Obtain the catch and release perk, if you already have it, get refounded perk points equivalent to its cost. As well as an additional target slot, if you already have three or more, get an extra perk point.

Class bonus: Catch and release cooldown is reduced to 3 days.

- Parasite: Obtain the Perk sharing and No negatives perks, if you already have any of them, get refounded perk points equivalent to their cost.

Class bonus: You can “remember” up to five perks from your targets, allowing you to copy them even if they don’t have them anymore.

Kai stared at his options in silence, suddenly, he felt like the first time he used recommended reward II. All options were somewhat good, but none were perfect. Luckily for him, he could see what each of the perks could do before deciding a class.

Subordinate can be interesting if I want Jack to manage his own targets. The parasite has a lot of potential, but I’d need to unlock Target perk tree to use its full power…

Master editor feels like a perfect fit, I’d get to change Luke, and whoever else I want, without needing to wait for the quests, but… IDK… giving the correct quest with the right rewards feels like the point of the app. I doubt the creators would like it if I just edited people on cooldown…

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again I changed how Quest Master classes work compared to other lines. It always bothered me how some content seemed to be gatekept behind a class, and you would miss out on it entirely. On the other hand, there were classes that didn’t unlock much new content, or simply unlocked underwhelming stuff.

Here, I decided to make each class instantly unlock a perk (or couple of perks) the class plays around, all of them costing up to 3 PP and refounding their cost if necessary. This way you could get catch and release or perk sharing without previously purchasing their required perks (you’d still need to get those if you want to keep progressing that perk branch)

Additionally, each class has an EXCLUSIVE bonus related to their theme and unlocked perks. This bonus can go from just massive cooldown reduction, additional effects that are too weak to be a perk, or small buffs that would fit a Quest Master from that class.

Each class has a specific perk branch, so I guess I pathetically failed when I set up to not gatekeep powers… Who cares, sue me.

If you want to tag along and write classes following this idea, I’d suggest making each class perk branch have about seven perks, and one of them be centred around giving the Quest Master additional perk points. (Of course, this perk should require a massive initial investment, I’m going for 5 in my route)

Finally, once the Quest Master reaches level 15 AND has purchased all of the perks in his branch he will be able to evolve his class, resetting his level back to one and unlocking more extra power.

I am not sure if I want to make the next class evolution require 20 levels, stay on fifteen, or just stop at one evolution. Honestly, I am not even sure I’ll get past level 15 before exhausting this branch’s ideas, but planning for the future is always nice.

What class does Kai chose
