Chapter 7 by reaper13 reaper13

How does the adventure start?

Let the adventure begin

“Welcome back, Princess.” Altima greeted Liandra.
“Please, just call me Liandra. I feel like just being an adventurer now, unbound by the duty’s of royalty.”
“Very well, Liandra. Are you ready?”
Liandra and Altime continued with the smalltalk for a while, until Calcifer got annoyed with it.
“We don’t have all day, girls. Lets start already.”
Liandra was surprised and quickly apologized.
“Ow, right. I’m sorry.”
Altima turned to Calcifer and asked him with an annoyed voice “What is your problem now?”
“Well, where do we go?” Calcifer stated.
That was a good question. Nobody knew whether they had to go to a dungeon or to the north or the east.
“Hang on a moment.” Liandra said.
She took the grimoire she took from the magician and began skipping through the pages.

“Right, here. This melody will help. Could somebody keep this book open for me?”
“I will.” Rodrik said while he stepped forth.
Rodrik kneeled before Liandra and held open the book on the page she assigned.
Liandra then readied her harp and played the melody.
It was a soft and gentle melody. While she played it, a soft green light started glowing in front of her. Slowly but certainly, it began to glow stronger and stronger. When the melody was complete, the green light was floating in front of Liandra and was pointing towards the south.
Nariel stated the obvious by saying “I believe we should be going southwards.”

The party started walking in the direction the green light was showing them. First an hour, then 2 hours, eventually 3 hours. They were far away from the capital city of Luxius now and deep into the forests.
The adventure went on without much troubles, until Altima called out to stop.
“What’s wrong? Why do we stop?” Nariel asked her.
“Somethings wrong.” The rangeress said while she knocked an arrow on her bow. “I don’t hear any birds.”
“What’s odd about not hearing birds.” Calcifer mocked her.
“Birds are generally ever present in a forest, unless there is danger. If you don’t hear birds, you’re either in a city or in a dangerous situation.” Altima explained.
Upon hearing this, Rodrik readied his sword and shield and stuck close to Liandra.
Nariel understood the danger as well and readied his daggers.

The party stood there for a while, silent.
“So what now?” Liandra whispered to Altima.
“I don’t know, but I think we’re in the deep forests.”
“What are those?”
“Many places in Luxius have been purified by paladins, but not all of them have had their turn. Some places are too dangerous for even the holy knights. The deep forests are one of those places.”
“And why are these places so dangerous?”
“Generally because strong monsters live there. They are often led by a demon.”

Then the conversation was interrupted by a vine being swung at Calcifer who was knocked out cold. The vine came from out of the bushes, so nobody saw who or what it was connected to. The vine next attacked Liandra, but Rodrik cut it off. As soon as the vine was cut, another one appeared, this one went for Nariel.
Quick on his feet, Nariel dodged it and Altima shat an arrow into it.

Liandra was afraid. She wanted some adventure, true, but this was an actually dangerous situation. Should she run, or stand her ground?

Should she run, or stand her ground?
