Chapter 137 by CaptainPulse

Who do we follow?

L'abbee's attempt at thievery

L'abbee sat on a rock outside the caravanserai. His leaves were starting to chafe and scratch; he was starting to miss his nice suit.

It seemed like so much had changed for him in just a few days. He had been claimed by the new love of his life, abandoned his former allies, joined a new noble house before being promptly kicked out on his ass, and had spent the last 48 hours without any clothes on. He had gotten so used to his nudity that walking into a crowded place like this gave him a bit of culture shock.

L'abbee sat awkwardly with his bare legs crossed, blushing at the people who stared at him as they passed. This was humiliating.

He trusted Tina to help them both get back on their feet, and he was secure enough not to feel jealous that she was probably getting their money through sex right now, but he wanted to help in whatever way he could.

As he thought this, his eyes caught something glinting in the low light. He turned to see a wagon being unloaded by a merchant and his apprentice who were just pulling into the row. "Zed, get those crates unloaded! We want to get into the inn before the sun goes down."

"Yes, master." The young apprentice ran and grabbed a small box of what L'abbee thought were bottles, most likely full of booze based on the way they were packaged. As they walked away, L'abbee caught a glimpse inside the covered wagon, and his eyes widened at the sight of a small sack sitting inside. There was just the slightest glint of gold inside, and L'abbee's mouth watered at the sight of a potential end to his troubles.

The nearly nude drow hiked up his leaf skirt and tiptoed over to the wagon, thankful that the crowd had thinned. He sidled up next to the wagon and reached inside, wrapping his fingers around the top of the sack of coins. He lifted the sack up and tried to walk away, but the bag wouldn't budge. It seemed a few pounds of gold was beyond the skinny elf's capabilities to lift.

L'abbee strained against the wagon, trying to drag the coin bag off with him. He had no idea how he was going to conceal it, but he decided he would solve that problem later. As he pulled, digging his heels into the ground, he gave one last major tug.

Unfortunately, L'abbee hadn't realized the weight wasn't the only reason the bag was stuck. In dragging it, the naked drow had accidentally gotten the lining caught on a splintered piece of wood, and his last tug certainly got the bag loose, but at a cost. The sack was torn open, and its contents flew out onto the ground as L'abbee fell onto his back.

As he was pulling himself up, L'abbee froze at the sound of a booming voice behind him yelling, "What's going on here?"

Who has caught L'abbee?
