Chapter 9 by brambank brambank

What should Leanne do?

Leave

Leanne quickly got to her feet. “Well, it’s been lovely to meet you and your grandad, Marie. But I really have to go now. There are things I have to do.” She began hurriedly walking towards the door before either the rotund girl or the old man could suggest anything else. Not stopping until she was safely back in the hallway with the door closed firmly behind her.

With a deep breath Leanne continued to get as far away from the room as she could. As she walked the corridor she noticed how eerily quiet it was. Not a sign of another person.

“Maybe everyone’s having their afternoon nap?” she wondered to herself.

A little further along she began hearing a strange noise. It was faint at first, but once she noticed it the sound became more perceptible. A kind of metallic clanking noise. A creaking. Almost a cry. It could have just been the old heating system struggling to activate. The pipes working hard as they came to life.

Whatever it was, Leanne was interrupted by another sound as a bell was heard. Turning to her left she saw the lift doors slide open. Peering inside she saw it was empty.

"That's weird," she observed aloud.

The young woman glanced around her but the corridor was as empty as the lift. She wondered if she should enter. It was a little convenient that the doors opened just as she passed it and more than a little worrying.

What should Leanne do?
