Leave Mertz to Belit
You thought that keeping Mertz occupied would be an easy task for Belit. She had a lot of experience toying with the corrupt elements of the law, after all.
"Hm... I was looking forward to putting a pin in Miss Prissy Pants, but this asshole's had it coming for a long time," the ranger agreed, pulling free her dagger from its sheath on her belt. Without the element of surprise, she'd have to rely on footwork and close-quarters combat. "I'll bet that bone armor of yours would fetch a lot of money on the black market! Dragon bones are good in medicine, ain't they?"
"You should quit worrying about my bones and start worrying about your own. My longsword will smash those skinny legs of yours. Then we'll see how quickly you move about, little thief!" Mertz goaded her, approaching with his sword wielded in both hands. "This is a real blade!"
"Oh yeah? Seems to me someone's overcompensating!" Belit retorted.
It seemed you could rely on Belit to be distracting, for sure. Her habit of going after her enemy's pride made her just the right match for Mertz. Now, you and your ally could focus on how to take care of Nil Riiche.
