Laura (Completed)

A young blonde girl in a school uniform stepped in and immediately crouched beside the door. Her hands covered her face but her sniffling gave it all away. She seemed lost in her sorrow, disconnected from the world outside her quiet, solitary corner.

His heart went out to her. She must be having a bad day, just like me. He took out his phone, hoping to distract himself while he waits for his drink to arrive.

The sobbing went on longer than Sy expected. With every passing minute, he felt more and more compelled to do something. But, what if she just ignores me? What if she tells me to mind my own business? What if...I'm just overthinking again?

I'm waiting for my drink anyways.

So, he got up and crouched beside her. "Are you okay?" Why did I say that? She's CLEARLY not okay.

The girl peeked, then hid behind her hands. "Go away."

Normally, he would have gone away. But, he hated how the day was going and decided to stay. "Life sucks for you too, huh?"

No response. And so, the two sat by the door, one letting her pain out, the other gazing into the void.

A few minutes later, the drink Sy ordered arrived. The blonde woman with the apron handed the drink to Sy and turned to face the girl beside him. "Could I also have a glass of water?" Sy asked politely. The blonde woman nodded.

"Why are you still here?" The girl finally looked up, revealing her puffy eyes.

"I don't know. This place feels really lonely, doesn't it?"

It was at this moment the blonde woman returned with the glass of water Sy had requested. Sy receives it from her and offers it to the girl. "Would like a drink?"

The girl hesitated, then took the glass of water from his hand. "Thanks," she muttered. As she sipped the glass of water, she finally revealed her full face, her light makeup smudged by tears. A few more sips later, she placed down the glass and got up slowly. "I should go."

As she turned the knob and stepped out, Sy got up too, as a symbol of 'goodbye'.

Life sucked for the both of them, but after meeting the girl, Sy felt a little better, and he hoped she did too.
