Chapter 38

Laundromat
"I'm glad you lift heavy boxes at work because I think my arms would break if I tried to carry that many bags," Laura laughed as they waited in the elevator.
"Hah, well, I always said Big Bucks was a free gym membership. Those cribs... ugh," he said with a laugh. "Don't me started on changing tables. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they made the frames out of steel."
"Here we are," Laura said as she unlocked the door to their apartment.
"I'll get the next set of bags," Dan said as he set his load of bags on the floor near the table.
"I'll go through the stuff to get what clothes, sheets, and blankets we need. It's still early enough to run over to the laundromat if you hurry."
"No problem two or three more trips will get everything in. I think the laundry basket is near the back of my car."
An hour later, Laura and Dan pulled into the small laundromat a block over from their apartment. Laura told him she wanted to make sure he knew how to do the laundry so that when she worked he could come over and do it himself.
"Hah," Laura chuckled as she spotted a couple on one seat in the far corner. A blonde, her long hair past the middle of her back, sat straddled on a guy's lap. His dark hands contrasted against the woman's lily-white skin. "At least she's wearing a bra," she commented with a smirk. Dan gave her a questioning look. "Oh, that's Marcus and Amber. Amber is an employee and Marcus works next door. I met them the last time I was in. The little minx is an exhibitionist," she confided in a low voice.
Dan goggled at her. "Okay, so show me what you want done," he prompted.
Laura smiled and walked him through the steps she did when doing laundry. "It's really that simple. The only thing is, you need to use a color catcher when mixing this pile and this one. If you don't you'll have whites that turn pink," she warned.
"Easy enough," Dan shrugged. "I'll take these three washers, and you take those. We'll be done in no time."
Laura smiled and watched him follow what she'd told him to do. She corrected him once, but otherwise, let him do the work. "Come sit with me," she said as she took a seat on one of the plastic chairs. Amber and Marcus had disappeared into the back room.
"Think they're..." Dan asked as his voice trailed off.
"Oh, they're going at it like bunnies," Laura answered with a laugh. "I saw the way Carmen looked at you today. You sure nothing is going on there?" she questioned.
"Positive. I think you're seeing things."
Laura put her hand on his shoulder and gently squeezed. "If you say so. Just do me a favor and tell me if... things progress, okay?" she asked.
"They won't."
