Laryssa's Suggestion
The next day, I invited Andrew over to play video games while Laryssa prepared dinner in the kitchen. She overheard Andrew tell me about a party he was invited to by some computer geeks he used to go to school with. She and I both knew Andrew wasn’t going to attend the party since he wasn’t that social. That’s why it surprised me to hear my wife ask Andrew if she could come with him…as his date…to that party. Joining us in the living room and sitting right beside Andrew, she pitched an idea about how she could help improve his social life – teasing that he would be the life of the party simply by showing up with a “hot chick.” Andrew loved her idea, and the two spent the rest of the night talking to each other while I played video games alone listening to them. From my peripheral vision, I could see their body language was anything but awkward, which surprised me. I was used to my wife seeing Andrew as nothing but background, and now she was giving him her undivided attention, which he was eating up. Andrew left before Laryssa, and I sat down for dinner, and all I could think about was the cocky wink he gave me on his way out. Suddenly, my nerdy tag-along friend was exhuming the same kind of big-dick confidence that Rob had.
Laryssa spent our dinner conversation planning her date with Andrew, or as she kept referring to him, “my bully,” which always made me cringe. She was subtly taunting me while telling me she was looking forward to getting to know him better. I knew she was just kidding and had the best intentions for Andrew. Her plan made sense, as the party was going to be full of nerds like him – how could he not be the center of attention there with a babe like Laryssa on his arm?
My wife mentioned that he couldn’t show up to any party wearing WWE apparel, suggesting that I lend him my credit card. She took him shopping the next day, and when the two of them came home together, both looked at me devilishly, like they knew something I didn’t. Before he left, Laryssa kissed Andrew on the cheek as he flicked my credit card at me and gave me a thumbs-up. I was in awe of confidence oozing out of the kid, oblivious to the fact that soon, everyone involved in this situation would betray me.
