Krissy takes stock of the situation

Krissy walked briskly out of Principal Howard's office and out into the school parking lot. The rest of the students would be released from their last class, and for the day any minute now, but she was alone for the moment.

Looking inside the envelope, she was surprised to find two hundred dollars. That was a lot of money. She could go to the store today and buy the clothes, as Principal Howard had instructed, or, she could just take it and buy a ticket on the next bus out of town.

If she did what she was told, she could finish school and then leave town, but she wanted out yesterday.

If she took the money, she could leave, but she wasn't sure about her prospects as a high school dropout in the city with whatever she had left after buying a bus ticket.

Neither was a great option, but either way, she was better off than she was this morning.

Indecision gripped her.
