Knowledge is power.

Max took a deep breath, going over the situation logically in his mind. The machine really did fix the window, and it really did make it morning. Memories of this new reality come as they are needed it seems, but a lot is still a mystery. Max got up form the table and went back into his room, which had changed to match the new house of course. After a quick search he found his cell phone, which was a model he had never seen before. Entering the passcode on instinct, he quickly hit the calendar app to check the date.

"Four years!?" Max blurted out in surprise. The date on his phone revealed it had been exactly four years since he got the strange machine.

That's why Lacy looked older and was going to work, and could be why we are in a new house.

Max pocketed his phone and walked over to his mirror to look at himself. Sure enough, he looked older as well. It was all so surreal, Max was surprised that he was so calm. As he explored the his new room, more and more things about this reality quickly became familiar to him. He remembered graduating, moving to the new house, losing touch with old friends, getting a job at a grocery store.

I hate to think how lost I'd be if I couldn't remember things like this, people would think I was some sort of crazy person. Speaking of people... I wonder how everyone else is doing?

Max decided that getting a handle on this new reality would be a good idea before making any more 'what if' changes. Though he also made a mental note to try and learn more about the machine itself. Perhaps by using a 'what if' to make himself know more about the machine. Max calmed himself down before getting too carried away with ideas.

I'll see what happened to everyone else first, then I can start learning about the machine.

He was also pretty curious as to what the rest of the new house looked like. Eager to learn, Max headed downstairs, heart pounding with anticipation.
