Kinktober #30
This is set in the same world as Maze of Women.
Fairy Tale / Shrunk
"...and she never ran out of coffee again, and lived happily ever after. The End." The Storyteller pushed the cover of the tome closed, collecting the book into a pile of pages between leather tomes on his lap.
"Most entertaining story indeed, Storyteller. Truly you have outdone yourself once again." the black cat said before licking her paw.
"Oh, I'm just doing my job, Madison." The old man rose from his armchair and pushed the old book back into its slot in one of the many bookshelves that reached up to the ceiling.
"Storyteller, there are so many fairy tales out there, and they are all such exquisite reads... where do they all come from?"
The Storyteller looked back at the cat with an elusive smile, "Have I not told you the story about fairy tales? It's one I had the privilege to be part of myself."
"You? You were responsible for fairy tales?"
"It was a long time ago, I doubt anyone really remembers." The Storyteller sat down on his armchair, "Why don't I tell it now? It all began a long time ago in a land far far away. I arrived in a kingdom ruled by an evil queen. First thing I found was her men throwing a man into a deep pit wherein a monster lived, just for refusing to say she was the fairest woman in all the land. I did not want to involve myself in the business of evil queens, so I simply did my best to live a humble life as a storyteller, opening a shop where I could tell stories for a pretty little coin every day.
One day a young man in a less than presentable state listened in on my story for the day, but didn't have the copper to pay for the experience. Nor did he have bread or milk or meat or woven fabrics... but he had a flask of the most delicious mead."
"Storyteller!" Madison gasped, "Don't tell me you..."
The Storyteller became flustered, " I must admit to having enjoyed the occasional glass or two in those days. And so I agreed to make this exchange his payment, and in no shorter time than in two days time the mead was consumed, but I still kept the empty bottle on display in my shop. More people began gathering to listen to my stories, for I didn't know it then but the mead held great magic to create words to captivate the hearts of men and women alike.
One day I even had the Queen herself in my audience. Knowing what happens to those that displease her, I made a point of being extra careful to tell my story just right. Yet I couldn't get even a word in before the Queen pointed to the bottle and said Is that my flask of the Mead of Poetry?
No, I_ told her,_ That is my flask.
You stole it from my abode? How I have been looking for it, and it was in your hands all along! And you drank every last drop and used its power to draw in customers to your shop! I had to slaughter the God of Wisdom and brew his blood in order to make that mead! Gods of Wisdom don't grow on trees!
And... well, there wasn't much more I could say to that, so she promptly had me tossed in the pit with the monster.
It was a deep fall, but I was cushioned by a pile of books at the bottom of the pit. There I found the most peculiar creature, a wyrm with a passion for books; a Bookwyrm. I could tell she was in a sour mood, with black rings on her eyes and a face whose expression forbade all nuisance.
I haven't had a wink of sleep in ages, she said, these books are all interesting and fun to read, but none of them have put me to sleep. On top of it all, these men have dropped in uninvited for which you are the latest, and none of them have failed to annoy me when I am in the most intolerable mood, and so I tried fucking all of them but nothing helped. That's when I noticed the pile of bones with broken pelvises sitting in the corner."
"Are you sure this story really is appropriate, Storyteller?" Madison asked, cocking her head.
"Ah, you have to remember," The storyteller raised his index finger, "This was all before fairy tales existed, so the stories from this time will be very different from the ones after. So I was **** to do nothing that would annoy the Bookwyrm for the longest time, but the tension was killing me. So I offered that instead of her books she would listen to one of my stories. Fine, she said, but if anything about your story annoys me or if you can't help me get to sleep, then off to the bedchamber you go. Relying on the mead of poetry still inside me, I concocted a story told at night time to help her sleep."
"And that was the first fairy tale?" Madison said proudly, puffing out her chest.
"That was indeed the first fairy tale. I believe it was about an evil king who had his best friend sculpted from mud, and when he died he sought immortality."
Madison laughed, "Classic indeed."
"Before I knew it, she was snoozing away calmly and hugging onto me tight like a stuffed animal."
"Aww, that's kind of nice."
"Well, it meant I couldn't escape. Her grip was like that of a vice, even if she was very soft and tender. When I woke up she was already up, making breakfast in the kitchen. If she had feet I'd say she was dancing as she moved. Morning~, she said, that story sure did the job! I can't wait to hear the one you have for me tonight!"
"Oh bugger. She was not gonna let you go, was she?"
"Didn't look like it. At night she wanted a new fairy tale so she could fall asleep as gently as that time. During the day she wrote down the story I had told her. There wasn't any question about letting me go."
"So what did you do?"
"One day, I had an idea. I told her a story about an Evil Queen, one who hated wyrms because they were nerds, and tossed down annoying people into her hole so she could put her into place."
Madison snickers, "Serves her right."
"I told her that it was a true story, and she was furious. She rose from her pit, tore down the Evil Queen's castle and had her exiled from her own land. Meanwhile I climbed up from the pit. How the fairy tale books got out of the pit and into circulation... well that's a story for another time."
"Another killer story if I say so myself. But did you ever meet up with the Bookwyrm again?"
The Storyteller blushed, "I... might have met up with her for a romantic dinner or two?"
Madison waggled her eyebrows, "Oh... Storyteller, you dirty dog!"
"Quiet you, or I'm putting you outside."
"Have it your way. I'm going to sleep, it's getting very late." Madison yawned and stretched her legs before wrapping herself up in a bun.
The Storyteller petted her, "Goodnight, Madison! And a good night to all of you out there!"
"Storyteller..." Madison mumbled, "Who are you talking to?"
"Oh, no one Madison. No one at all."
The End!
