KT-79 Black Dragon

The KT-79 Black Dragon is a fast **** tank in 2 legs. Half the way between a heavy power-armour and a light war-tank. Equipped with 6 jets for controlled flight and stability, more 2 larger density turbine for faster and longer jumps when necessary. 4 Delta Mag Cannons with independent aim directed by AI. The ammo for those weapons in extremely light, and that is compensated by the immense velocity the metallic particles of dust are accelerated. Resulting in a devastating weapon with practically no need to worry about reloading.

Two secondary and smaller guns, using piercing .50 bullets complement the larger weapons and are more appropriated for smaller targets at closer range, avoiding the risk of damage the KT-79 sensors exposing them at too many explosions caused by the hits of Delta Mags.

22 grenade launchers and 2 pairs of missile launchers with 6 missiles each covering the back of the tank complement the instrument.

The 2 powerful legs give this tank an aspect of dinosaur, and are not a great option for speed in open ground, but provide mobility in the urban and vertical territory of Space-Stations and inter-stellar ships. Where the ground can usually support the weight and impact easily. But regular surfaces are a luxury. Small arms with metallic claws or hands for delicate tasks can be adjusted to facilitate climbing and reduce the need to use the jets.

The Pelican brough 62 of those puppets, that can be used as independent drones or piloted. They should be tested, to determine how the environment between universes would affect the instruments. If at all. No one was expecting to use those things for real combat situation.

Then, no one was expecting a lot of things that happened since the Pelican started its journey.

Now, the KT-79 are the heaviest mobile defence system protecting Pelican City. The AIs had to be deactivated, otherwise the internal electronics would have burned in seconds. However, even with the adaptations for more direct manual control reducing the agility of this thing, they completely obliterate large groups of orcs, armed with primitive axes and medieval looking armours.

The pilot inside one of those is under no risk, the native aliens are large and strong, but no match for a serious weapon of inter-stellar warfare.

Humanity knew they had this situation completely under control.

Until the day they faced their first arcanist using a arcane aura.

This spell, presumed to be some sort of unknow technology, was developed primarily as protection against rocks, arrows and equivalent treats. Fortunately for the arcanists, and unfortunately for the Pelican citizens the aura becomes more effective the faster a projectile is. Following arcane laws, not the rules of physics, this protective spell is not affected by the quantity of energy carried by the projectile.

On the other direction, the offensive spells used by arcanists cut through the alloys used as armour by human technology, with the same facility they have to pierce through low quality iron. Wood and leather are actually less completely useless as armour against magic, because they have some residual spirit from the living beings who grew them. Spirit is what offers resistance to magic spells, mostly. All living organisms on Planet Kallos have some.

Also, to the misfortune of humanity. Humans, arrived from between the stars of a different universe, have no spirit in them.

Lacking that, humans are exceptionally **** to magic.

The locals studied captured humans, interrogated them with their magic filtering spells that allow mind-control and the stealing of memories. And because of that, when humanity found their first arcanists the locals had already a decent notion about what their enemies had.

To reach that strategic advantage, the locals sacrificed orc warriors beyond count. Deliberately avoiding to send arcanist orcs for those combats.

Interrogators use spirit to overload the neurologic system of their prisoner. And then they recreate the complex constructs of the mind of this prisoner in their own. Is a very advanced technique, and demands a huge capacity of manipulate and expend large quantity of spirit. However, as long as that last, the interrogator is able to use any skill and access any memory. They can understand the idiom of this prisoner, and in some degree even the cultural background where the language was formed. Is necessary to take notes of all significant information, fast, because the skills and memories fade as soon as the ram arcane power to sustain the copies of constructs end.

Some residual effects remain, and an arcanist master may acquire much by repeating this process in a same target. The procedure also leaves the prisoner in a state ideal for the arcanist to shape mental chains and impose unbreakable commands. Would be ridiculous to use this method for tame and train slaves, since far lest expensive ways do exist. However, once you have used the procedure and obtained the essential information you needed, there is no reason to not take full advantage of this collateral effect.

Humanity was unprepared to deal with those conditions.
