Justice Systems of the World
The most notable part of the justice systems of Gaea is the existence of truth spells. While under the effects of these spells, an individual is unable to tell a lie. As such, the judicial system less revolves around establishing whether or not someone is culpable for a crime, but rather their motives for committing such. Lawyers' jobs are largely about knowing the applicable laws, being able to ask the right questions in order to get their spin viewed as the correct one, and knowing how to lead the other lawyers. Standard procedure is to place all participants to a trial under a truth spell. Notable exceptions are as below:
Aasimar Kingdom: All nobles have a right to avoid self-incrimination, and are not **** to testify as the defendant.
Elven Kingdom: All citizens have the same rights as the nobles do.
Gnomish Kingdom: If an individual's crime is determined to have been for the good of the Kingdom, it is common to give a Vigilantic Grace sentence. This sentence usually revolves around a short stint of community service and is largely a slap on the wrist. Lesser crimes which fall under Vigilantic Grace are often handwaved entirely.
