Chapter 9 by ShadeWriter ShadeWriter

What does she do?

Just a bite..., right?

Usagi have a little shake of her head. No it would be best to just go home, get something to eat there. Rest her leg and get the other girls over to talk about the attack. That was the most sensible thing to do, and was the thought in her head as she turned down the street and took a few steps.

A loud grumble from her stomach, audible to the people around her, **** her to change her mind.

"Just.... one bite though... right?" Usagi grimaced as she covered her stomach with her hands and took a few steps backward before making a hurried walk towards where the smell was coming from.

The blonde never really hung around this part of town, besides just working for her job. A few small trips to see what was around, but most the streets and shops were unfamiliar to her. Rather she just followed her nose, finding the steak shop rather quickly. A sort of 'western' themed place, with American ranching and cowboys decals and decorations. Had a rather fun and warming atmosphere.

A waitress showed her to a table and handed a menu to which Usagi started to drool. So many different meals and ways of cooking the meat. This should be enough to quiet her stomach. She simply ordered one small plate which was quickly brought to her. A lot faster than she expected it would be. Still the heroine was pretty hungry, so she was pretty grateful for the quick service.

One bite and she was hooked.

The meat was so tender and juicey..., so full of flavor. It easily slid down her throat with a shallow before she filled her mouth with more. Usagi had to hold her self back from just devouring the entire steak. Had to still look like a normal young lady..., but she didn't turn down the offer for seconds. She just keep eating the night away, unaware of what time it was...., or the rising plates around her.

Usagi burped, a small grin on her face and flush on her cheeks. After all she ate, she couldn't help herself. But finally that stupid gnawing hunger in her stomach was gone, just a settled feeling of content. She felt a peace of mind with a full stomach. All that food would be a boon to her healing anyway. It was amazing what the scouts could bounce back with their enhanced healing, but it always burnt through energy to do so. She wasn't entirely sure about how they converted food to magical healing energy but she wasn't complaining.

"Maybe I can ask Ami about it tomorrow." she mused as she took a drink from her cola.

Or maybe tonight. Just get on video with her and the other girls, chat the night away, maybe put a movie on in the background. Grab some ice cream on the way home too. Just a nice easy night to recover from that attack.

It had been a weird one too. Usually enemies either didn't make themselves known until they where sure of the win, or they showed up to make mocking statements before running off. A drive by attack like that was a bit strange. Was it some coward of a monster, or a smarter Youkai? Perhaps it was a new rising threat, yet another thing to talk with the girls about. Maybe ask Pluto about it, though she was always iffy about sharing incoming news.

Her thoughts were scattered when the waitress came up to her and asked if there was anything else she wanted. Usagi considered some To Go, after all it had been really good..., and BBQ with a movie would be a nice way to spend the evening.

Only for the check to rock her out of her imagined night. The shrill noise she made drew attention from those nearby. Someone else apparently too had heard the sound, as a larger bald headed man came up behind the waitress. Wearing a clean pressed suit, he stared down at Usagi.

"Well now little lady, I hear you have a problem. Well..., we can work out a deal if you can't pay...., should I call the police or simply shove you into the back to wash all the DISHES you just dirtied?!?" He growled.

Usagi just blanked out and started to babble randomly. The waitress sighed and started to pull her up out of her seat while the other man, the owner by the sound of it, started to grab the other arm and drag her. An arm on his shoulder stopped him, and a whistle came as someone picked up the bill.

"That is a lot of money you owe."

A well dressed man with light brown hair had somehow appeared next the owner. His shades blocked his eyes but from his eye brows, Usagi could see he was wide eyed, no doubt from how much money was listed. The owner let go of the woman's arm, turned and shoo'd the man away for space.

"Look this doesn't concern you. Just go back to your own table, I'll talk with you..." but he was interrupted as the man put an arm around the owner's neck, pulling him in.

"And let you stick this lovely lady behind dishes all night OR possibly all month? Perish the thought my friend!" he patted the chest of the owner with a smile, "Look let me just handle the bill like I always do."

Usagi breathed a sigh of relief as the two continued to bicker and talk. Someone helping a stranger out of the goodness of their heart; maybe the world wasn't so messed like the news always said. She'd just duck out of this whole mess and head home after thanking the man. This idea came to a halt when the waitress leaned closed and whispered to her.

"Look, I don't mean to ... burst your bubble, but I know him. He's going to ask you for a favor or something as a way of repaying him. Think carefully about taking his help."

She had a choice to make.

What does Usagi do?
