Just Talking

Take raises her hands placatingly, "We won't try to get past you, but do you mind if we just... Talk a bit?" she asks.

He seems uncertain as he looks down at his crossbow and then back at Take, "I... I think so?" he says after a bit.

"My name is Take Nawa, it's a pleasure to meet you. Can you tell me how and why you're working for Izzy?" she asks.

They hesitate before answering, "My name is Vadel, I just... I don't really know. I've never felt like I belong anywhere. I was always an outsider among the elves, they accepted me, because I was good at repairing clothing, but Lord Windgrace... This cult feels right. I feel happy here," they admit and then clutch the crossbow tighter, "I'm not a violent person, but I will do whatever it takes to protect this feeling!" he states determinedly. "Lord Windgrace gave me a true purpose. A true place to belong!" they continue, getting fired up.

"We don't want to hurt Izzy or you, we just want to set things right. This isn't how things should be. It's not right to subjugate others for your own enjoyment," Take argues and Vadel nods.

"I know..." he agrees, "but the others, they just want sex, the elves have all been repressed for a very long time, I know it's not right, but the goblins are the only thing Lord Windgrace can offer," he continues.

"It's clear he doesn't want this either. Help us put a stop to it, We want to help Izzy and we can help you too I'm sure," Take offers and takes a step forward. "You seem like a good man-" Take starts and then gasps as suddenly Vadel points the Crossbow directly at her face.

"I'm not..." they say, their voice suddenly lower, angry.

Take quickly backs up, "I'm sorry... I... Uh... You're not good?" Take tries desperately.

"Not a man!" Vadel states and Take freezes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it, you just... Sound... and your armor covers-" Take backpedals.

"I'm a woman! Vadel! Seamstress extraordinaire! It doesn't matter what I look like! I know what I am!" she continues.

"What you look like?" Take blinks, completely lost at this point.

Vadel growls and Take backs off, realizing she's upset Vadel, but not quite understanding why or how. She decides to retreat for now. They return back to the first area. The bull is still here of course being watched by the Fox soldier.

Take still confused by her interaction with Vadel hands the chain to Malphiel, "Well go deal with your potential pet," she says.

Malphiel takes the chain and approaches the bull. "Hey... I want to take you with me. Keep you as... My... Well you know. I'm not allowed to though unless you consent to me, binding you to my service," she says and presents the chain.

"So, you're going to enslave me or what... They'll kill me? Have that weird spear thing eat me?" he asks and Malphiel hesitates and then nods. "Even if the other option wasn't a horrible death, being enslaved by you doesn't sound bad at all," he agrees.

Malphiel nods, clearly not very happy about enslaving someone even consensually, but she uses the chain on him. It wraps around his neck and he grunts for a moment before it forms a thick metal collar around his neck then the rest of the chain detaches. He touches his new collar and swallows, clearly a little nervous about this choice.

Take is staring down the path they just came from, "so... Does anyone know what that was about?" she asks.

Maple looks thoughtful, "do you know what a trans person is?" she asks.

Take blinks, "Um? I don't think so?" she answers.

"Ah well I think Vadel might physically be a male elf, but they consider themselves female regardless, they're clearly very defensive of their identity and based on their earlier sentiments about never belonging, I'm gonna guess that the elves weren't very accepting of their identity and they might be so loyal simply because Lord Windgrace was willing to accept them as they wanted to be accepted," Maple suggests.

"Oh... Okay I didn't know that word, but I have seen some people like that before. I think I get it. If we have to negotiate with her again, I'll keep it in mind," Take responds.
