Just Emma and Kitty

A few hours later, as Kitty and Emma nears the biology building in the rainy afternoon, they plan their approach to the suspected mutant. Kitty is telling her, "He doesn't seem to have physical mutations, but he really works out. And the way he talks, I don't think he knows he's a mutant!"

Emma concentrates but can't find a single person who seemed to have more than a smattering ESP potential. She tells Kitty, "We will go in together. I need you to identify him when you see him. We won't approach until he enters a classroom that has no other exit. If he attacks, touch me and we can phase through the wall. I should be able to protect you from any psychic attacks."

She and Kitty enters the building as clandestinely as someone with Emma's looks and stature is able to do. Emma is wearing a raincoat, which does help with the stares.

After asking around, Kitty and Emma are directed to his lab. They find the room in the basement and quietly enter the room and close in on his desk while he peering intently into a microscope, immersed in his work.

Suddenly, he looks up and notices the two, especially Kitty. He jumps up and knocks the stool he was using to the floor. "Ah, crap, I knew you would try to find me! Stay away!!"

He moves around to the other side of the desk and sprints for the door. Emma tells Kitty, "If you go through that wall, you can cut him off before he enters the main hallway. I'll follow him and try to calm him down..."

Kitty dashes through the wall, and Emma quickly runs out to meet her. She sees the man backing away from Kitty, shaking his head and saying, "You girls need to stay away from me! I...I can't control it like I used to anymore! Please, stay awaaaayyy..."

Kitty muses to herself, "How many times have I heard THAT in a bad sci-fi movie..."

The man slumps but doesn't go down. He leans against the wall, seemingly drowsy but awake as Emma probes his mind and soothes his fears. "This guy is really scared, but not OF us but FOR us..."

Emma feels the man's mind change and her mental defenses go up as she expects resistance to her probe. However, the man doesn't put any kind of resistance, but he draws her further in, wrapping the tendril from her mind with several of his own.

While Emma is occupied, he turns towards Kitty and says, "Hey, Babe, I'm so happy to see you again, and so soon!" He turns towards Emma and asks, "And who is this! Is she some sort of super-babe?? I've never met anyone so strong...minded."

He grabs Emma around her waist and starts to guide her back into the lab. He continues, "She seems to be a little overwhelmed right now, so I'm going to let her lie down. You should come too: maybe we can play another game!"

He takes Emma into the room and moves out of sight. Kitty thinks to herself, "That didn't go the way we thought it would. This guy is strong enough to beat Emma? Now what?"
