Chapter 7

Sore nuts
Manhattan
June 5th 1977
I've been living in Selena's townhouse in Manhattan for a month now and she has taught me so much. I can now turn into a mist form which is great for getting in and out of places easily. I can also turn into a cat, a wolf and yes a bat. I've learned what is real and what is bullshit as far as vampirism goes. For instance contrary to popular belief sunlight will not kill me however it will weaken me so it's still best to avoid it. My physical strength has increased and my reflexes are faster, in fact I can move much more quickly now, so fast you can barely see me move.
I still miss my previous life but I've come to accept my current situation more. Before we left Poughkeepsie I saw an article in the newspaper about me and how I had gone missing a week prior. It mentioned how I had disappeared without a trace and how the various police departments throughout Dutchess County are looking for any clues about my whereabouts. They used my current school yearbook photo in the article along with a hotline number people could call if they think they've seen me. There was also a picture of my parents and it really broke my heart to see it. They looked so sad and haggard like they haven't slept in days.
But I can't think about that now. I've got to move foreword. As I've said Selena has taught me a lot over the past month and tonight we're going to visit one of the offices of the Vampiric Council. Evidently there's a wide network of services that cater to vampires that's run by the council. They run shops that are exclusive to vampires, provide logistical help with travel when necessary and a vast array of other services way too numerous to list right now. Just know that if we need it the Council can provide it.
One of the first thing we did when we arrived in Manhattan was visit the shops so I could get some of the essentials that I would need like clothing and toiletries. Now you may be asking why are we going there tonight. I'm glad you asked. Another service they provide is a change of identities. We're going to get all the new documentation I'll need for my new life. Things like a New York State drivers license, birth certificate, you know the shit I'll need for the new me.
The only problem is I don't know what to wear. I'm standing in my walk in closet in my underwear trying to decide while Selena calmly sits just outside the closet. "How formal is this? Can I wear a tee shirt and a pair of jeans?" What makes this difficult is Selena is dressed up in a black designer cocktail dress with a pair of stiletto heel peeptoe slingbacks on. I swear she'd dress up to go to a backyard barbecue. "Wear whatever you feel comfortable in dear, you don't have to dress up. A tee shirt and jeans will do."
That's all I need to hear. I put on a denim jacket over a tie dye crop top tee shirt, blue jeans and my tan Dr. Scholl's sandals. I walk out of the closet and do a twirl in front of Selena." How's this?" She looks me over. "Perfect dear. Now let's go. Poor Juan has been waiting in the car for ages."
A new me
