Journey with Mathis Lormand

"Ah! You won't regret it," he says as he pats you on the shoulder, "Now we're gonna want to be skedaddling as my guess is we have about a night before the law is after both of us."
"Aren't you hungry?" You ask.
"Just give me a bit of grub while we walk," he says, "We should veer off the road though by a half mile and walk through the countryside, follow me."
You trek along with Mathis, the road is still visible in the distance, but should anyone dressed in the leather of a village guard or the steel of a soldier be on the road he'd be easily seen. You look at Mathis as he is walking along with you. He ate a bit of food an hour ago, but he looks very visibly tired. He grins as he notices you staring at him, "Don't worry about me," he says.

You walk for another hour and see the stone walls of Ronet in the distance, you look to Mathis now and he says,"Start worrying," he then falls down to the ground exhausted from the long distance he has traveled. You go over and bend down to try to wake him up, but he's out cold. You throw a bit of cold water from your canteen on his face, but still he's not waking up. "Damn it Mathis! You said you were good to keep going!" you yell out to him.
To make matters worse you notice the shine of armor down the southern side of the road, "Fuck, fuck fuck!" What are you going to do? Mathis was the one that had an idea on how to use his gem for the both of you. You notice he still has it wrapped around his neck. He's out cold, if you wanted you could likely take it from him and leave him here to be found by the soldiers, but he seemed like such a nice guy.
You look to the road once more in desperation and see that the men are atop horses and they are leaving the road to investigate the two of you.
"Fuck!"
