Chapter 6 by CaptainKitty CaptainKitty

What profession does she choose, or end up having chosen for her?

Journalist for a lewd TV network

Jenny wrinkled her nose in distaste at some of the options. "Stripper? Porn star?" She exhaled. "Why would I do those?"

The obelisk whirred. "Analysis indicates you lack formal qualifications in any of the military, medical and engineering fields necessary for high paid work on an operating space station, but indicates a background in entertainment."

Jenny rolled her eyes and muttered, "Not that kind of entertainment..." Her eyes picked up on one. Journalist for a television network called CGD Television. Jenny didn't know that the TV station's name was merely her mind translating its true one into an English language style abbreviation, like an American network station would have. The station's reputation is why it bore the name CGD; Cocks of the Galaxy Daily. A sordid station, with pornos shown late at night, and even in the day, lewd chat shows and salacious "exposes".

"Hey, journalist. I've done some, uh, interviews, it might be better than those other options." She clicked on it, expanding it. All the information it gave was the job was for a season of a small budget interview show; 2000 creds a week for 3 months; on top of paying off the communicator and identification costs. Under modifications it listed 1 communicator modification; further modification subject to negotiation with network.

"What does this mean?" she asked.

"Bioengineering allows people to be temporarily tailored to their job," the obelisk explained. "This one will only change your communication implant. I imagine it's to allow them to beam your lines into your head rather than use a teleprompter. Common ones in other professions are lung filtration systems, cosmetic enhancements, bionic appendages, and so on."

Jenny felt a pang of curiosity. She didn't want her body changed, so she thought she should pick this one. It'd be curious to see how that kind of technology worked but... well, what if it couldn't be reversed? "Alright, sign me up for that."

The obelisk whirred, and Jenny felt a jabbing pain for a brief moment as the directions to the job were beamed into the chip in her nervous system. "Designation and identification will be given at work site. The employer wishes us to convey it's the industry boilerplate contract. Have a safe day."

The trip over to the TV station had been unforgettable. Following the directions in her head, not consciously seeing them, but knowing they were being fed to her through her chip, it was the most surreal technology. And the aliens! Some with four arms, some with none, some with two heads, no head, a full range of colours, it was exhilarating! All the while strange foods were served out of carts and people bustled in and out of airlock doors leading into offices and shops.

The airlock hissed into a little reception area, with a four-armed magenta woman staffing the desk. She smiled at Jenny as she approached. "Oh, you're dressed strangely." In truth, she was, most people here seemed to be wearing leather one-piece overalls in dark colours. Wealthier individuals wore outfits more akin to catsuits, in much more varied combinations of colour and fabric. The receptionist was in an expensive-looking pink leather one. "Sorry, where are my manners! Welcome to CGD television. How can I help you?"

"I'm... I'm..." This was her first conversation with an honest to goodness alien! "Jenny Nicholson. I'm the new hire?"

The receptionist clapped her hands together. With two sets clapping, it was unexpectedly loud. "Ah yes. Well, we'll just get you to set."

"Already?!" Jenny spluttered. "I just got here." Here, both the network and the entire place she was in right now.

"Yes, we like to keep things moving and casual here. You get hired, you get on screen. Don't worry about outfit, it'll be happened in our traditional introduction, you know, the outfit and the something else." The receptionist waved one of her four hands airily as she escorted Jenny to a back room, all whited out except for a couple of cameras, whirring and wheeling over the floor independently. The only person there was a humanoid woman in a black catsuit, almost fit to bursting with an enormous pair of breasts. The blue-skinned woman's yellow eyes devilishly played over Jenny, making it clear that she knew her tits were on display, indeed, she wanted it.

"The something els- hi!" Jenny felt rushed, dragged over to this alluring alien woman.

The woman's voice purred, a deep husky tone. "Ah, you'll be the lovely..." She paused, as if savouring the alien name, "Jenny. I imagine you're feeling very disorientated." Jenny meekly nodded. "Well, do not be so. My designation on this station is Blueberry; I present this show. We do this annually, every season I introduce a lovely new co-host to our format. We like to get to know you."

"Well, I, uh... I don't think I'm that interesting next to you..." Jenny began, but was cut off as motion began around them, the white floors of the room shifting and moving until two chairs and a table between protruded out, creating an instant set as the cameras backed away. "Ulp!" An involuntary gulp escaped Jenny as she was sat down forcibly in one chair,

The cameras began rolling, and already Jenny could feel the teleprompter in her head coaching her to sit as Blueberry would introduce the show and launch into the interview format. How had this all happened so quickly? Thirty minutes ago she was safely at home!

How does the interview begin?
