Taking on a new identity, John became one of the veteran militiamen in forming the Southeast River Dogs, an underwhelmingly small faction that came late to the game. They were made up of the outcasts and runaways, but they had a breath of fresh air, happily farming from fish travelling down the river as they slowly grew to a naval ****. They were smaller than the actual coastal and open waters factions in Limbo Town, but they had an enormous fleet and a mostly ship-inhabiting population controlling the secret water channels and underground lakes, remaining small in territory, but big in numbers and power.
John was even the 28th person in the faction, sitting in a meeting and near the founder as they plotted their next steps. With John's help, some humanity was brought back to Limbo Town, as the Southeast River Dogs made one of their core directives to raise children and rescue the helpless. This always came with the idea that these people would soon become beneficial members of the group, and most did, but those who didn't were treated harsher than other groups might've, with John often being left to do the dirty business of executions, or around as it went on.
Still, John gave them 18 years, living longer in Limbo Town than most, helping him decide that this wasn't what he wanted anymore. John then packed up his shit, got permission to go, and lived on his own for a while, hiding on the other side of the enormous island people call Limbo Town as he built himself up. John then broke through the blockade, hoping to see this new world that Limbo Town was thankfully concerned enough for to stay isolated, getting his boat blown up as a result, since they weren't sure how the rest of the world would handle the mythical zombie virus and Earth's diseases.
