Chapter 3 by RedFireBrand RedFireBrand

What to do?

Job: Delivery Girl

Lydia sighed, knowing that with all she had just seen, magic was the real deal, and the debt was severe. Even if she could weasel her way out of paying for her father, she needed to cover her ass. She slid a dark green thong over that ass, as much as some string could be considered ‘over’, and put on her leather skirt. Her matching bra was still visible around the edges of her black tube top. After finishing her makeup, she kissed her black lips at her reflection and entered the Lobby.

It didn't take long to find the shadow man sitting in a chair at a table next to the wall. “So do you have a name?” Lydia asked as she sat down with him.

“I do not. Not anymore.” He replied, his voice always so calm.

“Shadow man, S-Man, Sman, Shadow, Shad… That’s it; I dub thee ‘Shad.’” Lydia smiled at him. “If for no other reason than because I need something to call you. Disagreeing with me won't get me to stop.”

“I suppose I can't stop you,” he sighed calmly. “Are you ready for your first job?”

“Probably not, but go ahead anyway.” Lydia shrugged.

“There is a simple delivery. Traditional couriers aren't used for magical items. Too many things can go wrong. One does not need something improperly delivered because it got lost at a sorting facility. It is currently in the mail room. Take it from there to the address listed. It won't pay much, but it will suit your lack of experience well.” He gestured to a door; on it was a brass plaque that read ‘Mail Room.’

“Do I get paid by the person I deliver to or what?” Lydia asked.

“The job posting will indicate the terms and conditions.” He handed her a piece of paper. “This job does indicate you will be paid at the destination. More job postings like this can be found on the board in the bar. However, I do recommend checking with me first. We don't want you taking on anything you aren't ready for.”

“Right, I guess I will hop to it then.” Lydia got up and went into the mail room.

Inside, she showed the paper to what appeared to be an owl-man perched on a table wearing a suit. He made a few noises before flapping over to a package in a cubby hole. It looked like a bulky satchel or book bag.

Lydia picked it up and put the strap over her shoulder, surprised by its weight. She left the hotel and walked only a short distance before its weight started getting to her. Considering the distance she would have to travel to the address, she weighed her options.

Her Options.
