Jen tries to talk some sense into Leo

"Hold on, let me try. I might not be able to get you out of here with me-"

"No way are you ditching me when real magic shit is happening."

"I need to check on Paula, Dominic!" Jen whispered, her voice going louder than she intended. She shook her head and walked away from the register, toward Leo.

Leo was older than even Jed had been, mid-40's and a bit overweight. Never married, barely ever having relationships that lasted more than a few months. He had been working in the store for longer than anyone else and had been pretty miffed when he had been passed over for the manager position in favor of Jed. Dominic's recounting of what had happened with the man hadn't been surprising. She could easily imagine him being a bit overbearing with the power that came with the position.

Still, she had to try. "Hi, um, Leo?"

"Jen, Dominic already tried to get the two of you out of your shifts. There isn't enough coverage here if the two of you leave and the odds of me getting anyone in at this point is almost zero."

"I know, really. But it's kind of an emergency. See, there's these coins that-" She held the silver coin up, showing him. To her surprise, he snagged the coin out of her hand. Her mouth fell open, looking at where the coin had been.

"Enough. Back to your register or I'll write you up," Leo said, turning and heading toward the office. Jen, not knowing what else to do, returned to her register. She quickly recounted what happened to Dominic and, between the sparse few customers that filtered through their lanes, discussed how they could get the coin back.
