Jed!

"Jed!" Loretta sobs on your shoulder. "Daddy gave a warning shot... sob... and Jed tried to wrestle the gun... sob... but it went off... sob... accidentally!"

You hug her to comfort her. You feel really awful because you had just wanted the farmer to scare Jed away. "I'm so sorry..."

The two of you are encased in the bright beams of the headlights of the police car pulling up to the farmhouse. You turn your eyes from the lights and see Loretta's father walking towards you with his shotgun in his hands.

"Get away from my daughter!" the old farm screams as he lifts his gun up.

"Daddy?!" Loretta gasps and quickly steps in front of you to shield you from her father. "Please don't, daddy!"

"Drop the weapon, sir!" you hear the cop yell as he draws his handgun and aims it at the farmer.
