Chapter 7 by TheTruePenguin TheTruePenguin

Fetch?

Janet Cunningham, thrice killed, once dead

Trying to just mentally shut out Kat's nagging that was starting to remind him just a hint too much of his Bibi, and not in a good way, the twins? mindless chatter was no less enjoyable, but years of public school had trained him to tune that out, and Terry had finally stopped crying, now just gently rocking herself side-to-side with a thousand-yard stare.

He wanted to check on her, of everyone, she seemed to be taking whatever was happening the worst, but he felt like Kat forgetting she existed, and the too-friendly girls in front of her would likely push her boundaries.

In all this introspection, he noticed out of the corner of his eye the angel glancing at him with a kind smirk, it reminded him of his mother the first time she found out he had a crush on waitress at the pizza place they frequented, well technically they went once a month, but after that it seemed to become a weekly visit.

Maybe because he was locking eyes with the angel, he noticed him push the door open this time, rather than wait for it. He stuck his hand out and seemed to yank the newest girl onto the train car.

"Janet, we've been waiting for you. Please go join our other guests and the party will be starting shortly. The young girl in the first seat is Terry; you might have something in common given your... transportation of arrival." The angel was surprisingly genial as Janet walked past him down the aisle, seemingly no less shook up than most of the other passengers.

She quietly slid into the booth across the aisle from the twins, as Omar had taken to referring to them as, looking around.

"Hi, I'm Ashley!" The perky blonde introduced.

"And I'm Ashlyn, where are you headed?" The brunette added.

"I'm... I'm dreaming right? Or is this the life flashing before my eyes bit because I don't remember being on a train, although we had a lot of field trips when I was a kid, so anything's possible." Janet said, her voice softly shuddering. "God, I could really use a drink right now." Janet continued.

"Tell me about it, they took my cigarettes, my pills, Hell, I'd settle for a decent cup of coffee right now. Kat, murdered." Probably the nicest thing Kat had said all train ride.

"You killed a cat?" Terry mumbled as Kat turned to her with an annoyed look.

"No, that's my name Kat Jennings, maybe if-" "I was being sarcastic, I know your name is Kat, I'm a mess and blonde, but I'm not stupid." Terry snarked back before Kat could finish.

"You should put that on a shirt, or a plaque or something, although I guess it's a bit late for that now." Omar joined in, earning a few soft chuckles.

"Yeah, guess so, the guy back there said we had some things in common, I got ran over by a truck, you?" Janet turned to talk to Terry, who seemed to shrink back into herself.

"She got hit by a bus, mine specifically." Kat interjected.

"Shit, despite my assertions to the contrary, I seem to have bad luck with stuff like that. Nearly died at a racetrack, nearly died in my car at a car wash, got ran over by a truck in a coffee shop." Janet wondered aloud.

"Nearly died in a plane crash, got hit by a bus." Terry whispered.

"Survived a pileup on the freeway by a log truck, got killed in my car by my airbag." Kat added, doing her best not to snap at someone.

"What are you guys talking about?" Ashley, or Ashlyn asked. Ashey was the blonde one right?

"How we died, or I guess the disaster we survived first, and then how we died." Janet explained as Ashlyn looked at her like she was stupid.

"We're not dead though." Ashlyn argued.

"Don't listen to them, I'd say all the hair dye effected their brains, but I'm pretty sure they died at a tanning salon so probably fire or electrocution. Hey blondie, was there anything really badly that happened shortly before you got on the here?" kat bit out.

"I mean, not really, there was that roller coaster that failed, we barely got off before it crashed, but we were just jamming to some tunes, getting our tan on so we could look our best for the memorial, and next thing we know we're on this train." Ashley replied, now officially the most civil conversation in the short history of the group.

"So, a plane crash, bus crash, a lot of car crashes, a truck crash, and a roller coaster crash? Stay away for vehicles guys." Omar snarked, earning a few more smiles.

"Should probably avoid garbage trucks too, just to be safe." Cam mumbled, although no one heard him over the earsplitting sound of his train whistle.
