Chapter 7 by OmniScribbler OmniScribbler

What's next?

Jackie goes to the park

Exactly 60 minutes later Jackie woke up. This confused her because usually she would need at least five hours to recover. She didn't dwell on the matter though and started getting ready for school. She got dressed and headed downstairs. Her parents were still asleep so she decided to make herself some breakfast. She grabbed some eggs, toast, a plate, and some other ingredients and was just thinking about how cooking in the game was way faster and easier.

She felt a rush of energy well up within her chest and rush out through her arms into the ingredients and... and they cooked.

One second they were just the raw materials and the next she had the breakfast she had held within her minds eye moments ago right there in front of her. She took the plate of food and sat down. It was good. Really good actually. The perfect amount of jam on crisp yet soft toast. The omelette was perfectly proportioned parts spinach, ham, tomato, and cheese. Jackie wasn't particularly hungry but you wouldn't have guessed it based on how she devoured the plate.

Jackie sat there stunned by how good her magic breakfast had been, then went to clean up the kitchen. As she was finishing up her dad stumbled in and began making coffee.

"Morning Dad, I'm gonna head out early, Lisa wanted to show me something." Jackie told her dad as she headed up stairs to grab her school stuff. He responded with a groggy grunt of acknowledgment. Once in her room she grabbed all the books and papers she would need for the day and put on her backpack and they instantly disappeared.

Jackie blinked a few times, staring at the empty backpack. She looked around the room to see if she was going crazy. She even looked under the bag but her belongings had simply vanished.

Then she reached inside her bag and was greeted with the strangest sensation. She could feel a book in her hand and even though she couldn't see the book she knew it was her history textbook. She let go and tried to grab a different item this time grabbing her pencil case.

"Okay, so I have a magic backpack now." She lifted the bag and found it weighed as much as an empty backpack, even though it was technically full of heavy books. After a moment Jackie dumped all of her books into her bag along with some other items she thought might be useful. The bag remained as weightless as ever.

Jackie checked her phone. Two hours until class. She didn't want to just go there and wait for people so show up so she decided to go for a walk instead. She knew that this early in the morning there wouldn't be too many people in the park and there was an area behind the bathrooms that had partial tree cover. Plus it was on the way to school. Jackie went downstairs, waved bye to her dad and started walking.

After about a block she quietly made herself invisible and started running. She figured a girl running at speeds that rivaled those of a professional cyclist would draw more attention than she wanted at the moment. However the park was still a ways off so she experimentally cast a few Martial spells on herself that in game would have boosted her speed and stamina. The effect was immediate. To Jackie it felt like the world had slowed down and she realized that not only had her agility gone up but her reflexes and ability to process the world around her had increased dramatically as well. Within a minute she had completed the remaining five miles of her journey and quickly found the spot she had envisioned earlier.

There were a few joggers and loiterers around so Jackie decided to remain magically out of sight while she practiced. She did a mental catalog of all the spells she had at her disposal and decided to start with a few Divinity spell, that was the class that landed her in this situation in the first place she thought.

She started at the lowest level spell from the game and whispered, "Infvriga." It was a light buff spell meant to provide a small amount of armor and health regeneration to the target, which in this case was Jackie herself. She didnt really notice anything different so she reached into her backpack and pulled out a pocket knife. She poked her finger with the tip of the blade and nothing happened. Okay to the armor part works, not sure I really want to test regeneration though. she thought to herself. Satisfied with her test she moved on to other spells.

Divine rays burned small patches of grass, various auras appeared and disappeared around Jackie, and a tree that was waning came back to a healthier state from a divine blessing spell.

Jackie moved up a few levels in her tests.

She sprouted a pair of feathery wings and after a few awkward attempts she got the hang of using them.

She managed to summon a few familiars such as a minor archon and a divine boar.

Jackie wanted to avoid casting any of the more flashy spells, which the higher levels tended to be known for, but found a few spells to test incognito for each tier.

She had gotten to around level 20 spells when she was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a young man and woman entering her little corner of the park.

"I told you we don't have time for this!" The young blonde woman giggled. "I have to be at work in 30 minutes."

The redheaded male had his arm gently but firmly around her waist and was guiding her over to the densest clump of trees.

"Yeah but you hate that place." He leaned over and nuzzled her cheek, "And you love this part of the morning."

Jackie's face flushed slightly. This was definitely meant to be a private moment she was intruding upon and anyway she was getting late for class. She attempted a teleport spell with the school roof as her destination and...

Nothing.

Nothing happened.

Jackie tried again and this time felt the distinct drain of energy from attempting to cast a spell, but then it stopped and was followed by a sense of... incompleteness? This new development puzzled Jackie.

Maybe I'm not strong enough to teleport, its a level 30 spell and I only tested up through 20. To further test her hypothesis she attempted to cast a level 30 mind control spell on the couple who had now begun to make out under one of the trees. The sense of inadequacy filled her once again. Okay so I need to level up, but first school. After school I will work on that.

Jackie walked out into the more open area of the park, still maintaining invisibility, gave herself her angel wings and took off.
