What does she see?
Jack Aesgar and the Femtheon
What if most of the divines are female?
Such is the case in this universe. Yet a male child was born to the two Queens of Asgard - Odina Borsdottir and Frigga Skaldottir, from a seed gifted by Yggdrasil and blessed by Gaea.
The seed child was sown in Midgard and was destined to incubate for nine lifecycles before its divinity could sprout.
Thus the child lived and died and lived again, nine times in total, each life as a different person, in a different place, a different time, with no memories of his past lives.
For it's 10th life, the seed child was born again as Jack Ryker. Jack grew up an orphan in the American Midwest before moving to NYC with his foster family when he was 12.
After that, Jack lead a pretty unremarkable life of an American teenager in the Big Apple. He finished highschool in one piece and played basketball well enough to receive an athletic scholarship to attend Empire State University. About five weeks into his freshmen year, Jack walked into his favored Starbucks near campus for his daily morning caffeine to find the establishment completely deserted except for the one guy seated at one of the coffee tables.
“What's up, man? Are they closed today?” Jack asked.
“Nah man, they’re just on a short break,” the man at the coffee table said jovially. He was a black man with a bald head. He wore a black trench-coat and had a black eye-patch covering one of his eyes.
Jack squinted at the strange man. “Wait are you…. Samuel L. Jackson?” He asked in surprise.
“Ha! I get that all the time!” The man replied. “My name’s Nick. Nick Fury. Why don't you come over here and have a seat, Jack. Here’s your coffee. On me. Just the way you like it.”
The black man slid a tall cup of coffee across the table towards the unoccupied chair across from him.
“Wait… How do you know my name? How do you know how I like my coffee?” Jack asked warily.
“Don't you worry about that,” Nick replied, “Come on, sit yo ass down, I don bite! Damn!”
Still hesitant, Jack, stepped closer to the table and pulled out the empty chair before sitting down across from Nick. “Are you a recruiter? I don’t have any plans to transfer…” Jack said.
“Naw, this ain’t about balling. This is bigger than that. Congratulations, kid. You’ve reached the big leagues!”
Jack’s eyes grew wide. “You’re from the NBA?!” He asked.
“I said it ain’t about playing ball,” Nick replied, “I’m with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. You ever hear about the Avengers?”
“Avengers? You mean like Iron Man, Captain America…”
“Those are the ones!” Nick replied, “I’m the guy who put them together. Now I’m looking to put together a whole new team. Kinda like a backup team, you dig? In case anything happens to the Avengers. I call it the Young Avengers, and I’d like you to be in it, Jack!”
“Huh…Wait a minute… Even if I believed you, why me? I’m a nobody!”
Nick smiled. “Let’s just say you came highly recommended.”
Jack frowned. "By who?"
Suddenly, there was a loud boom out in the streets which shook the building and windows. Jack turned to look out of the store windows to see a tall imposing woman with long golden hair marching up to the glass door entrance of the Starbucks. She was wearing a metal helmet with stylized wings and an odd attire that covered her entire arms in metallic scales. She also sported a luxurious, flowing deep-red cloak.
The woman let herself into the coffee shop and glanced around. Jack noticed she was carrying a hefty ornate hammer in one hand.
“Holy shit, that’s Thora, one of the Avengers!” Jack gushed.
Thora, the mythical norse goddess of thunder cast her blue-eyed gaze on the pair seated at the coffee table. A smile spread across her regally beautiful face. She turned, placed her hammer lazily on her left shoulder and walked over to the seated pair.
“You found him!” Thora exclaimed.
Nick Fury shrugged. “It wasn’t easy. Like a needle in a haystack.”
To Jack’s surprise, Thora suddenly put her right arm around him and roughly ruffled his hair. “Oh Aesgar! It’s been too long, my little brother!”
“Are you sure he’s the one?” Nick asked while studying Jack with curiosity.
“Certainly! This is Aesgar, I’m sure of it. Mother will be so pleased,” Thora replied.
“Ack… E-Excuse me!?” Jack muttered while Thora crushed him against her with her free arm.
“Well, if you say so,” Nick replied. He turned his attention back to Jack. “You heard the literal goddess of thunder, kid. Seems like you ain’t a nobody after all.”
“B-but… I d-don’t know h-her….” Jack wheezed.
“I guess we’ll see,” Nick replied as he stood up and stepped back from the table. “Why don't you give my offer some serious thought. We’ll talk again when you get back. And oh…” Nick leaned forwards to pick up Jack’s coffee from before him. “Won’t need this where you’ll be going. They prefer mead there.”
“What!? Where am I going?” Jack gasped, “I have a class to get to!”
Thora tightened her left arm around Jack and raised her hammer over her head with her right. “Take us home, Heimdalia,” she announced.
Jack suddenly found himself swallowed up by bright rainbow light.
