Chapter 79 by SmallestStories SmallestStories

Let's get in.

It is in complete ruins.

If the front wall of the sanctuary seemed fine, the inside was not fine at all : grass grew on top of the stones making its floor, while some parts of the walls were missing. You weren't even sure if the ceiling wasn't going to collapse on top of you with each step you took.

In the middle of the only room of the sanctuary, there were two statues of a women, maybe the one speaking to you through those sparks of energy. It looked like the statues used to be on either side of an altar or something like it, but said altar was nowhere to be found, as a hole in the ground was between the statues. When you got closer to the hole, you could see it going deep inside the earth. If the sparks floating right above it weren't enough of an hint for what you needed to do, they ended up falling in the hole, following the path with no words.

You were glad to have your swords with you this time, even though you weren't really sure how they managed to give you your swords when they got you out of the manor... Were you really so sleepy that you didn't pay attention to this ? Either way, you pulled both of them out, before jumping in the hole, that wasn't so deep, so you landed on your feet with no problems whatsoever, before starting to follow those sparks once again.

The path they were leading was only heading deeper underground, with an almost imperceptible slope. The only light being the one emanating from the sparks did not make you comfortable, but at least you were able to see in front of you, and the path was long, really long.

It felt like you were walking for hours at this point, yet still not seeing anything but darkness in front of you. The tunnel wasn't getting wider, nor was it getting any tighter, which you were thankful it didn't. And with the fact that the only noise emanating came from your footsteps and your breathing, you almost started to miss having your party with you, as **** as they can get at times.

Despite all of this, you never stopped walking, and eventually ended up getting out of the tunnel, in front of a crossroads, with another statue of the same woman you've seen before in the sanctuary between two new paths. Then each spark got in front of one of the paths, before the feminine voice you heard quite a bit ago now resonated within the walls of the tunnel.

"Make your choice, little one, and may your fate be forever changed."

She then stopped, letting you examine closely both ways, the purple spark in front of the left one, while the blue spark was in front of the right one. You wondered what that meant, before the voice continued on.

"Choosing the left path means that you will be able to fight with the destructive power of lightning, like your draconic companion does."

Electricity then started to pulse from the purple spark, as it grew bigger while the voice explained this.

"Meanwhile, the right path will grant you the protective power of ice, giving you flexibility and resilience."

Like what happened to the purple spark, the blue spark started emitting a cold aura while growing bigger, as the voice explained it.

You were now in front of a choice : Which path to take ? Going left meant that you would be granted the power of lightning, in a way that you couldn't even begin to guess, while going right meant that you would have the power of ice in the same way, you guessed. Both had their advantages, and while you felt like the potential of surprising your foes with ice in a fight was something big, you couldn't deny the raw power that lightning would give you.

This was a really hard choice to make.

So, where to go now ?
