It Doesn't go how James Planned

James was a little disappointed to see Rebecca's reaction when she appeared. He had hoped she would be nervous at this visit from the authorities, fearful even. In fact, as she looked from Hermione to James he was sure he saw a glimmer of delight in her eyes and was trying to repress a smirk, though she was able to keep a straight face as she spoke to Ms Grainger.

"I am here because I understand your witchcraft has been made known to this Muggle here."

"Yes, I am so sorry" Rebecca began "I'm afraid he tricked me. I believe this man slept with me in an attempt to get me to expose my secrets to him. I'm afraid he got what he wanted, I was stupid and I let my guard down."

"What? That is ridiculous!"

"Quiet, Muggle!"

James fell silent as Hermione glared at him. She then continued with her questioning.

"So you believe this Muggle to be a spy? A threat to the wizarding world?"

"I'm afraid so"

"That's a very serious accusation!"

"It's a lie! Can't you put a truth spell on her!"

"Silencio!"

James found himself rendered mute as Hermione waved her wand in his direction. He would not be able to argue his case any longer, while Rebecca was free to keep lying.

"See! He knows about truth spells. He is planning to expose us all, I'm so sorry!"

"Well, you don't need to worry. I will deal with him personally, you have my assurance."

"Am I in trouble?"

James couldn't believe what a convincing actress Rebecca was. She was totally selling this.

"Well, you will probably get a letter reminding you of your responsibilities as a member of the magical community but I don't think we need to take action on this occasion. You have been deceived in a particularly odious manner after all."

Hermione turned and glared at James again.

"Are you going to punish him?" Rebecca was keen to know.

"I'm going to ensure appropriate action as taken" Hermione promised.

As Rebecca closed the door Hermione turned to James with something of a wicked glint in her eye.

"well well, James. What am I going to do with you?"
