Chapter 61 by takacube
Who does Saunders discuss?
It's your friend, Randall
"Randall? What about him?"
You looked at Saunders who slipped out a piece of paper and slid it in front of you. Despite the fact that your brother and sister were under age and, thus, not able to legally enter into a contract, you could recognize the NDA That you had signed earlier about your mom in the hospital. "Wait..."
Saunders just looked at the three of you before you rolled your eyes and signed the document, motioning for your siblings to do the same. Once that was complete and the doctor had the form in his hand, he put it away before he pulled out another document from his bag. "Your friend's step-mother, Alice, you're familiar with her?"
When your annoyance started to manifest itself on your face, he sighed and then looked at you. "Your friend Randall was riding with Alice and his father when they got T-boned by a DUI driver. The driver was fine, your friend and his parents weren't so lucky."
David blinked. "The fatalities from this morning was Randall?"
He nodded. "It wasn't instantaneous, they were brought to the hospital but it was touch and go. We managed to help Randall. Alice and his father, though, they were beyond help."
You were stunned by the news and David just sat there, equally mute and equally unable to put together a sentence or two. Only Tabitha, who somehow managed to get through the haze of the disclosure, looked at Saunders. "So, why did you tell us?"
"Because, as things go, your family's the closest thing to family that he has left. He'll need your help more than ever, now." Saunders opened the portfolio and showed you a picture. "I spoke with your father and he's on board with this." He slid the picture in front of you three. "This is who he now is..."

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
