Chapter 130 by Cliffe Cliffe

Next Chapter.

It's just a bunch of silly rockers.

"How do I find him?" John asked once he felt like he and Otrov had walked far, far away from his mother and Mary. Neither one of the women that John had seen last before entering his kingdom seemed to have noticed him as he and Otrov made their way through the neighborhood, but he wasn't that surprised by that. Otrov had already proven that she could hide the both of them in plain sight if she wanted to. He just had to accept the circumstances for what they were.

"Go hunting." Alanah's voice was not nearly as seductive as she had always made it seem like. Once John actually agreed to go as far as killing someone to help her, her guard seemed to drop slightly and she let him hear how she spoke. Her voice lilted with the traces of a slight accent that he couldn't place, making her tone deepen with most of the words that she threw at him. Her powerful posture fell into a slight slouch to one side, and caused her hips to jut out to one side... but even when she seemed comfortable around John, she never let him see her weapons or how many of them there were. The look John gave her for her answer must have betrayed his confusion because she quickly followed it up with another statement, "I don't know. It's not my responsibility to help you find him. All I need is for him to finally just disappear."

Finally?

"How long have you wanted Daniel dead? What exactly did he do?" he asked and watched as Otrov skipped a step when he dared to pry into her personal life. Her head flicked to the side to look at John, but her expression disappeared. A blank face replaced her features as she undoubtedly hid behind another illusion, and John tried to make himself look straight ahead. He may not have been able to see her if he was trying to grant her privacy from his gaze... but then again, it wasn't like he could actually see her in the first place.

For all he knew, Alanah could have just been another illusion.

"Nothing," she eventually grunted at him. The look on his face betrayed his surprise. "What? Did you assume I wanted him dead because he's some kind of monster?" When she paused to actually wait to hear his opinion, John quickly gave her a little shrug. He couldn't think of any other reason to want somebody dead. "No," she said. "He made an oath after we met the first time to avenge the **** of his queen. Has been hunting me somehow ever since.

"He's trained to blend in. He's manipulative... and clever enough that he could start a hundred different cults with ease, but... he's a warrior. A knight, of sorts, for his country..." At some point, while they were walking, Otrov's hair stopped shifting and wavering around with the breeze. She disappeared from the spot at his side while they were walking, and left him to move through the neighborhood with an illusion she was barely trying to maintain. The direction her voice was coming from never left his side, but a quick use of his Observe ability confirmed that she was no longer there. He assumed that she was close by to make sure that she could keep hearing him... but he wasn't able to find her.

"You're not hunting a monster, a serial killer, or a kidnapper of any kind. Daniel Salvador is supposed to be a man of honor." His stomach flipped as Otrov continued speaking, tightening like he had eaten something his body was rejecting, and John clenched his jaw in a weak attempt to resist the urge to hurl.

"You want me to kill a good guy," he said. It wasn't a question and Otrov knew it, so she didn't give him an answer. She only said what she needed to help keep him focused.

"I want you to be ready to do whatever you have to to help all those little 'mana batteries' that I showed you," she said. "Good guy or not... kill him."

"I need you to find him for me then. I don't care if it's your responsibility or not. I'm not some tracker or hunter. If you want this to happen, then figure out where he is and-" Somehow, John ran out of breath before he could finish talking. He opened his mouth to try and speak and then closed it again and again, but it didn't fix anything. The fact that he was helping other people didn't change what he was doing and John couldn't bring himself to be okay with it. Only he didn't have to be fine with what he was doing, he just had to be able to do it. "... and then I will do the rest."

Otrov didn't answer him. The two of them continued walking in silence until it reached a point where John could have sworn that the awkward lack of noise had caused a ringing in his ears and John felt the need to restart the conversation... at least at some point before she decided to stab him in the back. He turned to ask Otrov another question... and then blinked when he realized that her hair was moving around again. Observe confirmed that she was walking next to him again, and the assassin turned to look at John with a cocked eyebrow as he stared at her.

"Why do you keep picking the same outfit? If you could make your clothes look like anything, why do you choose this one?" he asked and watched a sultry grin spread across her face. She licked her lips like she was savoring the taste of his words and John nearly took a step away from her.

"How do you know I'm wearing any clothes at all?" her voice came out smoky and slow again; her normal tone was disguised. Her eyes became lidded and focused as she stared at him, and John froze on the spot. He imagined it for a second, and that was all it took for him to become distracted. Was she wearing anything? He figured that she had to be... at least enough clothing for her to carry her knives around with her... but there was definitely something arousing about the thought that she might not be. Before he could stop himself, John started smiling at the idea that she could be walking around in broad daylight like the world’s greatest exhibitionist with nothing to truly cover her body. Her creamy, ivory skin seemed all the more apparent to him now, as if the knowledge had suddenly made it possible and tempting to find out the truth if he just looked a little bit closer.

Of course, his fantasy was cut short when Otrov threw her head back and laughed. A light flush filled her cheeks as she held her sides for a moment and stared at John... and then stepped forward to trace a finger along his jawline.

"Wow, you are fun to tease," she giggled... and then bit down on her lower lip as she held the edge of his chin with her fingertips. "Meet me at your friend's house tomorrow night. I'll have Daniel's location for you by then," she said... and then vanished from sight.

John sighed, staring at the place where she had been standing for about a minute... and then he turned around and started walking again. If he was going to actually do this... then he needed gear. He needed to try to get as much equipment as possible from either the Frozen Flame or the Order of the Golden Rose. He needed to find a way to deal with the army of soldiers that Daniel always had beside him... and if he did somehow manage to kill the older, stronger gentleman... then he needed to find a way to stop Daniel's sister from killing him in retaliation...

... or he just had to not get caught.

He made it five feet across the sidewalk before a car honked at him and screeched to a stop on the other side of the street. He turned to look at Robyn as she quickly rolled down the window, one of her hands clutching a handgun tightly to her chest as she scanned the area around John and then furrowed her brow. The long blonde hair on the top of her head was combed over to hang off to one side, revealing the shaved side of her scalp. Her amber-colored eyes were outlined with smoky makeup that was drawn to make the corners of her eyes sharp and her lips seemed strangely pink and pouty for some reason. John couldn't help but stare at her as he approached.

"Where's Otrov?" she asked when John finally got close enough to make sure that she didn't need to shout. John frowned briefly and then shook his head.

"You just missed her," he grunted, but couldn't pull his eyes away. Robyn frowned and quickly stuffed her gun away. As far as he could remember, he had not seen Robyn in any makeup yet. It contradicted the personality he had known of Robyn so far and the presence of her metal arm, but John couldn't say that it looked bad on her. It was just unexpected.

"You're staring. Knock it off," she snapped at John, and the Gamer quickly lifted his head and tried to find something else to look at. Everything he found, he only managed to bring himself to stare at for a couple of seconds before he felt ridiculous for doing it and tried to find something new. When neither one of them said anything after that, Robyn broke the silence by explaining why she was wearing makeup now, "Eddie attacked me with her supplies while we were talking about your Orc friend."

"Oh..." John couldn't think of much to say after that. He didn't know how he was supposed to react, but he tried to say something to get rid of the awkward feeling in his gut, something truthful and nice. "It looks good," he told her. She immediately responded by snapping at him again.

"Shut up," she told him... but the slightest hint of a blush still filled her cheeks at his compliment. "What did Otrov want with you?" This question pulled a long sigh out of John. His shoulders drooped as he gingerly stepped around the front of Robyn's car, pulled the passenger door open, and climbed into it.

"Same thing as last time," he grunted. "She wanted me to be the one to go after Daniel." Robyn made a little noise in understanding and slowly nodded her head. Her expression was disappointed and she was **** to look away, but she didn't understand. Not truly. She thought he was going to say 'No' again, and he didn't want her to think that he would rather do it for Otrov than for her. "I tried to tell her no..." he paused, and Robyn paused with him as the smallest fragment of hope seemed to slip into her. "... and then she threatened my mom and Mary."

"She... she did what?" Robyn blinked hard at John, her lips parting slightly as he spoke.

"It wasn't in so many words... but the message was pretty clear." Robyn didn't say anything after John told her that. Her hands clutched at her steering wheel, she chewed quietly on her upper lip, and she just continued staring at John. He knew what she wanted to hear... and for once, he didn't feel as sick as he thought he would about saying it. That realization eventually made his stomach turn, but he moved past it a lot faster than he thought he would. "If... If I'm going to end up killing Daniel, then I need to know how to get to him. I need him secluded and cut off from all of his allies.

"I need... I need more than just a grenade launcher."
