Chapter 3

What's next?

It's Just One Week

"It's just one week. It's just one week. It's just one week..." Dana repeated to herself nervously as stood in the doorway, the single mother of three looking around the room that was just as bare as she was.

Dana had got into a wager with a few friendly coworkers at the office while watching a football game at the local sports bar after work. Essentially, Dana and a coworker named Frida places bets on which team would win; Frida betting on the home team out of team spirit, and Dana betting on the away team due to the home team having never won a game in their entire career.

The stake of the bet was that the loser would have to spend an entire week without their clothes or anything they could use for cover. No bed sheets, no curtains, no towels; nothing! Their entire bedroom would be gutted and put away into storage for the week, leaving them walking around starkers.

Guess which unlucky soul lost the bet...

Dana put in her two weeks notice for vacation time, without bringing up the bet, of course. It was Summer Break, so she also sent her youngest two children (a fifteen year old boy, Elmer, and a six year old girl, Lucy) off to her ex-husband's for the time being, thankful that her eldest son, Jeremy, was in college and off on a summer long vacation with his girlfriend out of town. The woman had hid in the garage as she heard her coworkers swiping everything from her bedroom. Her sheets, her curtains, her towels, her bed, her furniture; everything! And to make sure she wasn't tempted, they had also packed up Elmer and Lucy's curtains and bedsheets as well. The curtains in the living room, too.

And after everything was placed into a storage unit that Frida had rented, Dana was finally left alone in her house... Completely naked.

Dana sighed as she kept repeating those four words in her head, walking down the stairs as she made her way to the kitchen to get something to snack on to calm her nerves. As she reached the fridge, however, the woman noticed that she was dangerously low on food. She knew she should've bought more food a few days before this stupid bet!

No matter. She'll just run down to the store and -

She paused as she reached for her purse on the counter. How was she going to walk down to the store like this? She didn't even have a pair of shoes, let alone a pair of pants.

"Okay, Dana, think." The single mother said to herself as she leaned against the kitchen counter. There had to be a way around this.

She remembered that Frida had allowed her to keep the paper towels and toilet paper. And her backyard was fenced, so she could grab one of the larger palm leaves or some flowers from her garden. She could use one of those to fashion into makeshift clothes. However, she did know that there was a slim chance that those "clothes" would have a hard time staying together. Not to mention, it was highly unlikely that the store was going to let her in dressed like a wood nymph.

She could go and borrow some of Lucy's clothes just for today, undersized clothes were still clothes that she'd be allowed in the store with... Albeit with funny looks. The problem, however, was that her daughter, as stated before, was six years old. "A tight squeeze" would be a gross understatement for whether or not she would fit in her clothes.

But as the woman's stomach rumbled, Dana was **** to weigh her options as she debated what to do...

Does she fashion clothes out of anything? Or is she enough to take some of her daughter's clothes?
