Fallout: Another Irradiated Revenant

The Super Mutant

Chapter 1 by Verdant_Hatchling Verdant_Hatchling

In the year 2061, experienced soldier, twenty two year old Desmond Scorch entered the European Civil War as an independent operative, privately working for American interests, and over the course of four years, he’d gathered innumerable, important data, and had been the SOLE cause for the fallings of many American enemies.

In 2065, after a near endless tour around the European Commonwealth, as he returned home, Desmond was commemorated for his actions with many medals, including but not limited to, a Presidential Medal of Honor, a Silver Star, and two Bronze Stars, as the White House was anxious for some accredited war heroes to show off.

After returning home from the conflict, a twenty six year old Desmond spent less than three months at rest before being told to prepare for the poorly timed invasion of the Chinese forces; he was brought in as an Officer of the Defense **** for what was merely the beginning of the Battle of Anchorage.

And, after spending six years leading many different corps of soldiers to defend the lands of Alaska, and in spite of his many successes, he’d still lost a significant number of soldiers, over half of each enlisted group were KIA in the first month they’d get there, leaving any win he’d made throughout the years all but null in his eyes.

Then, the thirty two year old Desmond was summoned from his previous, basically permanent post, to the White House, and after being awarded various other medals, he received another Medal of Honor and two more Silver Stars.

Desmond didn’t feel like he deserved them, but his opinion didn’t matter.

He was then brought in on an operation for a counter attack on the Chinese forces who’d invaded in the first stages of the Battle of Anchorage.

And three years of planning had passed before any headway had been made, as Desmond was released from the Yangtze Campaign, for what would be his last mission.

Desmond was sent to complete the Gobi Campaign, a new operation of an unknown scope. His mission had been to infiltrate an obscure military base, and upon being dropped some miles from it, he’d traveled thousands of feet a day, under the cover of the emptiness. Upon reaching the compound, his life had been at risk many times, and each and every one of them, he made it out with expert skill and absurd luck.

By the time he’d reached his objective, he’d racked up over a hundred kills, all silent takedowns for fear of further combatants, as he made it to the Gobi Compound's command room, he’d found a sleeping man in a chair, and as Desmond silently approached him from behind, he took his knife and slit the man’s throat, before gathering the data he’d been tasked with retrieving.

After that, he’d merely been a showpiece, being escorted across America as a propagandized symbol of the power and responsibility of war and the makers of it, as on October 23rd, 2076, during the last public appearance of the current president, Desmond Scorch, decorated soldier of the United States, was awarded his third Medal of Honor, before being escorted to another location.

After an hour of driving, he’d arrived at an undisclosed building, as he entered an elevator, going down ten floors, and seeing a Vault door, numbered 199.

“Ok Mr Desmond, just sign here, and you could just walk in now, if you so choose.” A slightly shady man was speaking to him, before he just signed it, walking haphazardly into the Vault’s interior, grabbing the Vault suit on his way past.

As Desmond began sulking his way through the somewhat enclosed halls of the super protected Vault, he suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder, as he turned around, to see his only friend from his earlier years that was still alive, Elliot Dosser, and received a hug from him, as they began discussing between themselves, they passed the time complaining about this and that, and bonded again over woman, as their were a few lookers in the Vault as well, but Desmond was usually quiet.

And just like that, over the course of one year, the experiment of the Vault was conducted, discovering the effects of prolonged enclosure, but everyone seemed generally unperturbed by that, as their social interactions made it bearable.

But as the experiment reached the one year mark, on EXACTLY October 23rd, 2077, a great quaking occurred above ground, shaking the Vault at its foundations, as the unusually calm staff started leading the inhabitants to Anti-Radiation Pods, as the rumbling continued.

While the inhabitants were actually being frozen in Cryo-Pods, the Vault’s structure was immensely compromised, and right as Desmond’s gaze was about to be frozen, he saw the ceiling collapse onto the staff, and countless other Pods, crushing them, as he was successfully frozen.

Twenty three years of radiation does wonders to a frozen body.
