Chapter 2 Ends. What happens next?
Into the police station
Forging ahead through the vampire-infested city, Leon finally arrives at the Raccoon Police Department, but even here, it is no longer safe. Looking for any signs of life, he begins his exploration of the station.
Chapter 3 - Reporting For Duty
Leon quickly ran through the front gate and shut it behind him. At least he could take a breath now. R.P.D. was standing silently in the center of the city, surrounded by blood thirsty vampires. That alone was enough to give him bad feelings. Anyway, he had no other option but to enter.
The goddess statue in the main hall immediately caught his eyes after he pushed open the front door. He heard this place used to be an art museum, but this was too theatrical for a police station.
“Hello? Is anybody here?” And he got no answer.
The doors to the west office and those upstairs, all of which have spade signs on, were locked. The lever controlling the rolling shutter fence was sealed behind the electrical box by tapes. On the other side of the hall, another rolling shutter door was closed, with a sign writing “KEEP OUT” on it. Blood was floating out underneath.
Has the station fallen, too? He dreaded to think what had happened.
He went to the reception desk to check things out, when he noticed a box of 9mm handgun ammo. The ammo applied to his Matilda, however, the packing box was not in the average red and black, but in white. A trade mark of “Kendo’s Gunshop” was at the bottom of the box, which was the same as what he saw on the van earlier. Must be a popular shop in the city, he thought.
After reloading his pistol, he went to the terminal computer to check on the CCTV cameras. If there were any survivors, he must go get them.
“There has to be someone here...” He looked at the empty corners of station anxiously.
Finally after seconds of silence, a figure appeared on the bottom right screen which seemed to be shooting at something. Leon zoomed on the screen and found out that it was a police officer.
“David! Marvin! You there?” The officer showed a notebook to the camera and shouted, “I found a way out! It’s in here!”
Before he could continue, something grabbed his arm and he started to struggle. Leon swore to god that he saw nothing on the screen beside the officer. Was it some kind of invisible monster? Or...or did those vampires actually not show up on screen?
“Send reinforcements! East hallway!” The officer pushed that thing away and fired a few more shots before running off.
In no time Leon checked the map and located the east hallway. He could go through the door with the “KEEP OUT” sign to get there.
He pulled the lever beside the door but it was stuck halfway. He took a deep breath and climbed through the gap with great caution. With the help from the flashlight, he saw a few corpses laying on the floor along the hallway, both polices and civilians. He wasn’t sure whether those were really dead corpses or some dormant vampires, but he didn’t dare to check.
Passing through the hallway he reached the watchman’s room. Before entering the room he heard the officer screaming behind the fire safety door.
“OPEN UP! HURRY! OPEN UP! OPEN THIS GODDAMN DOOR!” The officer sounded in horror.
“I’ll get you out! Gimme your hand!” Leon rushed to the door and lifted it up a little.
When there was enough room the officer took his chance and were **** to crawl out. Leon grabbed his hands and did his best to help. The officer was halfway through. Things seemed to be turning out well.
“HELP ME! PLEASE! HELP ME!” The officer cried in fear.
In an instant, three tentacle-ish things came through the gap, with each of them a pair of sharp fangs, swiftly stung into the officer’s waist from the side. The officer screamed in pain and started twitching and vomiting blood. Leon tried to pull the officer out with all his strength but the tentacles were slightly stronger. The officer was torn apart by sheer ****.
“Oh my god...Jesus Christ...” Looking at the upper half of the officer, Leon gasped in despair.
But the danger hasn’t left yet. The three tentacles shot out from the gap and tried to attack Leon, but failed due to not being long enough. However, they were able to reach the officer’s body and stung on it. Leon quickly took the notebook from the officer’s hand before watching the body being drawn into the darkness.
In the meantime, growls came from the hallway outside. Some of the dormant vampires must have woken up by the noises here. Leon knew he was in grave danger and must fight all the way back to the main hall. The moment he opened the door, a uniformed vampire lunged at him and tried to bite. With not enough room to maneuver he shot its head to buy some time.
However, he was surprised that, different from before, when the monster’s head was pierced by the bullet, it started to burn. And within seconds it burnt into a pile of dust, which definitely couldn’t resurrect again.
“What the...” The only explanation came to his mind. It was because of those white-box ammo.
Although the situation didn’t give him much of time to think. All the vampires sleeping in this section were waking up and surrounding the only living human here. Leon, by counting the remaining bullets in his gun, tried his best to survive.
Just as expected, those got a headshot got turned to dust. And those got hit at the torso or limbs were severely injured, could barely move and the wounds didn’t heal up like usual. With a clip emptied, Leon was able to destroy or disable most of the monsters and cleared a path back to the main hall. He started to run when a few vampires busted the barred door on his right.
When he climbed halfway through the shutter door, a vampire out of nowhere grabbed his leg. He tried to shake it off but was too exhausted to do so. Just when the vampire was about to bite, a strong hand pulled Leon out of danger.
“Watch out!” He shouted.
“Got it.” The helper, an wounded police officer, after crushing the monster’s head with the shutter door, smiled at Leon with his cadaverous face, “You’re safe...for now.”
“Thanks...” Leon breathed heavily.
“Marvin Branagh.” The officer introduced himself.
“Leon Kennedy...There was another officer...I...I couldn’t...” Leon hasn’t recover from the events before and lowered his head in remorse.
“Here.” Marvin reached out his hand to help Leon up, “I’m sure you did what you could, Leon.”
“Does anyone know what started this?” Leon followed the Lieutenant back to the bench behind the reception desk.
“Not a clue. Since a week ago we have been receiving reports of missing people. We sent the forces all around the city but found nothing. Until tonight...Everything went to hell.” Marvin sat on the bench to check the terminal computer, “We didn’t put up much fight before they swarmed the station.”
“Damn it...I was supposed to start last week and I got a call to stay away.” Leon sighed, “I wish I’d come here sooner.”
“You’re here now, Leon. That’s all that matters.” Marvin smiled reluctantly, “Those monsters...they don’t stay dead. One more man won’t make any difference.”
“But what about these bullets?” Leon showed Marvin the white ammo box, “They can kill those monsters.”
“You’re right, but we don’t know what they are. They came in along with the last ammunition supply.” Marvin painfully pressed his wounds to slow down the bleeding and spoke lightly, “Chief Irons...made orders to spread the ammunition throughout the station. If you could find more of them, you will have a better chance...”
“OK, Lieutenant. I’m ready.” Leon walked up to Marvin.
“Hopefully, you’ll be able to find a way out of this station. That officer you met earlier, Elliot...He thought this secret passageway might do the trick.” Marvin pointed the drawings of three statues and their corresponding medallions on the notebook.
“This is good news. We can get you to a hospital.”
“No, no, I am not the priority here.” Marvin shook his head.
“Lieutenant, I’m not just gonna leave you here-” Leon was worried.
“I’m giving you an order, rookie! You save yourself first.” Marvin yelled, “I’d come with you, but I’d just slow you down...”
Leon sighed at the Lieutenant’s stubbornness. That doesn’t change anything. I will save the Lieutenant. Drag him to the hospital if i must, he thought.
“Now...you’ll need this.” Marvin took his combat knife off and handed if to Leon.
“I can’t take-”
“Stop.” Marvin stared at Leon after he accepted the knife and said, “And don’t make my mistake. If you see one of those things, uniform or not, you do not hesitate. Whether you take it out...or you run, don’t look into their eyes. Some of them can make you hear things. Terrible things...Got it?”
“Yes, sir.” Leon nodded. Remembering what he had encountered at the gas station, he shivered.
However, watching Marvin sat down in pain, Leon once again made up his mind.
