Chapter 10 by Zebra Zebra

What will happen next?

Into the fire...

You quickly realize that reading each book was going to take days, and so you just flipped from page to page looking at the drawings of crests. Comparing them to the one on the medallion around your neck, amazed at the number of noble Elf families there are. It takes you most of the day and over half the books, before you realize that these went all the way back to the old elven empire (the so-called "Empire of the Diamond Throne", which collapsed over 4 centuries ago). Its only when you get to the sixth book, that you start getting into the age in which you live. Suddenly you understand, that you wasted most of your time looking at houses that had all been dead for ages. Rolling your eyes in frustration at the old librarian having wasted so much of your time.

It is almost night fall, when you finally spot the crest within the very last book you were looking through. Turning back a page, you read all about your fathers ancient family line. Noting that his was one of the very last major land holdings, after the wars between humans and Elves over the centuries.

This large land holding is located on the territory of one of the two elven states that have survived and exist in the modern world - on the territory of a state called the Free City of Tior-Faen (this name of this elven state is explained by the fact that it is a trading city-state). More specifically, this landholding is located on a remote island, which is located southeast of the city of Skelweerd. In the west of this island there is a coastal castle called "Tideblade", which is still owned by representatives of your father's family. If someone decided to get to this island from the port of Skelweerd, then this traveler would have to spend a lot of time and effort: the sea journey by ship would take more than a two weeks due to reefs, changing wind directions, and the need to avoid various dangers. Please log in to view the image

However, based on what you have read, your father's family (called the Hyureeno family) is still an influential noble elven family in the city of Tior-Faen. Moreover, some representatives of this elven noble family are among the aristocrats who form part of the Collegia of Nobles - a collection of the most influential and wealthy elven aristocrats that governs the elven state called the Free City of Tior-Faen.

So, we can say that the information you read makes your father’s family (you would like to say “my family,” but you understand that these elven aristocrats most likely do not know about your existence) - the Hyureeno family - prominent and important. You think about the wealth and power of this elven family, which occupies a significant position in the territory of the Free City of Tior-Faen.

"Found what you were looking for?" The old librarian asks looking over your shoulder, you had been so engrossed in reading that you hadn't even heard him shuffling up behind you. "Because if you haven't... you will need to come back tomorrow. As the library is closing for the night." You finish reading the last of what was written about your family, before helping the old man get the books put back up.

Once back out on the streets, you start the long walk back towards Oolok's house. When a carriage rolls up close beside you, the door opening as a fat red face human looks out at you. "Hello little elf... would you like a ride?" Looking at the big expensive carriage, you know that your dealing with at the very least a very wealthy merchant or minor noble of some type.

"Thank you sir... But I don't have far to go." You lie as convincingly as you can, even as that smiling face darkens into a frown. "My master will be expecting me to return as quickly as possible." You add quickly, turning to hurry off down the street leaving the man and his carriage behind. The walk back to the slums is a long one, and a thick fog beings to roll in off the river as you get closer. Unseen in the fog, a dark cloaked figure is tracking you... slowly getting closer and closer on cat quite feet.

"Oi Jerome!" Ahead of you a family figure steps out, you realize that it is Arlen the faun from the pub. "Cold night to be out wandering... why don't you come in for a sip. I'll even pay for your first one myself." He invites wrapping a friendly arm around your shoulder, pulling you inside the crowded smoky pub with him. "I can offer you a better dinner than that breakfast by the way... went to the market... bought some fresh vegetables and stuff."

So someone is hunting heirs...
