Chapter 6
by Nemo of Utopia
How do you react to his insulting tone?
Intimidation, +K:N&R Bonus
You draw yourself up to your full height and look down your nose at him. "My good man, I am not only a Pear of the Realm, but was accorded a full Count's rank by the Queen's own hand less than two weeks gone! Therefore, if you value your position, you will go announce me at once!" You state and the man recoils as if you had just become an enormous scorpion!
"Yes your Lordship, at once!" He all but squeaks and scurries inside.
You wait a few minutes and a different, much older, man appears, having the air about him of a majordomo or head butler.
"If you would come with me your Lordship, I will show you into the drawing room where you may wait while Miss Chelsea prepares to receive you. Your men of course may go around back with your carriage and await your pleasure in the stable. Come along and it please you." He says in a stiff formal accent that speaks of longstanding service and experience with the noble orders.
You detect no trace of malice or low cunning in his voice, and follow along readily enough.
The Entry hall is large and welcoming, done all in pink marble with a carbuncle chandelier, and but you keep yourself from gawping and are shortly ensconced in the drawing room.
Some 15 minutes pass, and then the majordomo reappears and says, "Miss Chelsea is ready to receive you now, and best of luck with her. Her betrothed Sir Andrew Samarium died just over a year ago and she is only recently out of formal mourning, yet the pain of it all is still rather raw. I doubt she will yet be receptive to your suit, but good luck all the same."
You are shown in to the sitting room where Miss Chelsea, who smiles for you, though it does not reach her eyes, awaits you in a yellow satin dress.
You sit and try to find an icebreaker...

D&D Dynastic Delving
Welcome to the world of Eva.
You are an adventurer, with longstanding obligations to the Adventurer's Guild of the Queensland of Lore. You are being asked to enter the Labyrinth of Ambuscade, a deadly dungeon from which few return, but those who do come back rich beyond the dreams of kings. Your family has been given exclusive rights to this treasure trove, but it is perilous beyond reckoning, so exploiting it will be the work of generations. Sire or bear children during the downtime segments between 'adventures' to continue the story when your current character dies and invest the gold and gems you bring back in expanding your family's castle built atop the entrance to the Labyrinth to give those children training which gives them the best chances to succeed where 'you' failed. You start out by picking a character from the top list to begin the game as, each time your character 'dies': or at least doesn't come back for about 20 years, there ARE conditions in the story where the current heir can run into and rescue their distant/not-so-distant ancestor(s): their son or daughter starts a new delve into the Labyrinth of Ambuscade, perhaps ending up dead as well or perhaps at last reaching the fabled Glade of the Gloaming where grows the Tree of Immortality whose magical fruit grants eternal life to those who eat it. Not all characters are created equal, in some respects: Female characters, due to the difficulty and risks of having children in those cases and the shier deadliness of the dungeon, start with three daughters to carry on after them, males by contrast do not start with any heirs, they have to create them the old fashioned way. (Inspired by other stories on this site, the Pathfinder Role Playing Game System and the video-game Rogue Legacy.)
