“Gabe chose you to be the bearer of one of his personal fetishes. That’s quite the honor, do you think this will give you an advantage in the quest to become his favorite?”

“It certainly can’t hurt, annoying as it is that he’d do that to me in the first place. What did you mean when you said that he vetoed my trait?”

“Gabe receives guidance from outside of this world. This **** wanted you to have the dirty spellbook, but in his wisdom Gabriel chose another path.”

“I see. So it’s not just Gabe making these decisions?”

“His choices are his own, he only receives guidance.”

“You’re a liar.”

“Have I offended you?”

“You need to come clean to me right now. Why are we really here?”

“I prevented your demise, by enacting a ritual, now we must complete the process if I am to return you to your world.”

“That’s a lie. Why is the senator here? She wasn’t even in the same state as us when the bus crashed.”

“The guilt of the crash would have driven her to do… something drastic. Her life is on the line, just as much as your own.”

“You expect me to believe that ball of ego, felt so bad for us she unalived herself?”

“What is it you think you’re investigating?”

“If you were really trying to help us, you’d be honest. You’d tell us that someone is helping Gabe make these decisions rather than have us blame him for every choice. You’d let him know that he has to choose one of us to be his queen.”

“He would resent you if he knew you were all competing for his favor in exchange for a wish. Best to leave everyone’s intentions pure.”

“Kant says we have a moral obligation to tell the truth. Humans are rational creatures, and denying them the truth denies them the chance to make fully thought out rational decisions.”

“My only concern is ensuring you all successfully complete The Quest. This is how I think it will be best accomplished. But if you feel you know better, far be it from me to get in your way.”

“I can’t place my trust in my team, after someone who is lying to us.”

“Night, I see you’re still in a bit of a bind.”

“Mmmrm.”

“Then I will not distract you for long. Instead, I will give you a few things to consider. In life, your pride, and confidence prevented you from bonding with your team. It put you at odds with Gabe, and left you isolated from Everyone. It was only The Senator’s refusal to let you out of your contract that put you on that bus. But in the end, your competence did get you a slot on the team. Like Vera, I gave you a life similar to your own. But for a different reasons. I felt she was the closest to achieving a meaningful relationship with Gabe, while I believe you are the farthest. You are doomed if you do not learn to overcome your own pride, and give yourself to another person.”

“Mmerf muh!”

“Or you can choose to stay who you are, maintain that competence, and gain nothing from this experience. Be nothing more than a tool for Gabe to use and discard.”

“It’s been a while.”

“For me and Gabe it’s been but hours.”

“That must be confusing for him.”

“For everyone.”

“How old is Night?”

“64.”

“Ah, but a child. May I ask you a question?”

“Of course.”

“If we complete The Quest you will return us to the other world, the one we came from, yes?”

“That is an option, yes.”

“Can we stay?”

“If Gabe allows it, yes.”

“I should like to stay.”

“I see you’re up and about. Welcome.”

“...”

“Perhaps that assessment was premature.”

“I don’t know who to speak as…”

“Gabe wanted you to be a goblin, I’d always lean towards what would please him.”

“Senator Fatbutt from The Great State of Texas… that can’t be right…”

“In another world once, and perhaps again one day, but in this world you are Princess Daisy Fatbutt Eldest daughter to Matron Fatbutt of The Motherhood of Goblins.”

“I was on the Judicial Committee… you can’t do this to me!”

“Calm yourself little one, you’d be dead if it wasn’t for my intervention. I don’t expect gratitude, but you must appreciate the stakes.”

“I know the stakes. You offer me the chance to become the first female President, and then turn me into this disgusting creature, and then tell me to seduce that man.”

“He put you into a form more suitable to your personality, and besides that, he gave you an extra level over the other party members. I’d say you’re doing well.”

“Yeah, and he made it so I can’t deny him if he orders me around.”

“Further ensuring you will always please him. Just think of him as a donor, Senator. What debasements didn’t you subject yourself to for your donors?”
