Chapter 100 by Fantasy Fantasy

What’s next?

Intermission 6: Emily, Megan and Jessica.

They parted with David and headed to the library. The curious eyes of every student following them every step of the way. There were very few who were still unaware of what made the gathering of these three people such a bizarre event, especially now that everyone had connected the dots between all participants.

Even in the library cubicle they could feel the stares through the glass walls. Even if they are soundproof, everyone wants to know what would make the soccer starts and a member of Olivia Hughes group lock themselves there to talk. And hopefully just talk.

“Let’s get something out of the way first. You know we’re only here because David asked us to, right?” Emily says, a scowl clear on her face as she sits across the table from Jessica, Megan at her right side.

“I know.” Jessica nods meekly. “Even so, thanks for agreeing.”

“Why did you promise David you’d talk to us?” Megan asks. Her tone is far softer now. The fact that the man she loves so much asked her to give this girl a chance made her change her attitude. What’s more, it’s not hard for her to imagine what she wants to talk about.

After taking a deep breath, Jessica starts. “We met by coincidence on Sunday. We went to the café that close by and talked. I guess you already know how I c-confessed to him?”

Emily sighs to suppress her annoyance. Even now she can’t quite accept how someone can be so cruel to a person one moment and the say they’re in love at the next. Sure, David is extremely charming and handsome and sexy and kind and FOCUS GIRL. But… Yeah, she’s being a hypocrite. While not at Jessica’s or Olivia’s level, Emily was still pretty mean to David when they first met. Even so, he still agreed to tutor them. They wouldn’t be playing soccer now if not for him.

“We know.” Emily nods. Besides her, Megan smiles as she notices her girlfriend’s tone shift as well.

“He said that he wouldn’t go out with me if I couldn’t get along with you.” Jessica tells them with a small smile. “He said your opinions were important to him.”

Even if the foreign girl didn’t notice, and even if the two jocks weren’t conscious of it, those words made them see Jessica in a slightly more positive light. Those were without a doubt David’s words, and the fact that Jessica had told them about it meant she was being honest.

Emily and Megan look at each other, sharing a wordless conversation before coming to a silent agreement.

“Jessica, you need to understand a few things first.” Emily starts. “One, David and us got together at the same time the scandal you and your friends started had ended. It’s way too hard for us to forget what you did to him.”

“Two,” Megan continues. “We know by now how easily David falls for other girls. We don’t mind, and personally I think it’s cute. We weren’t his first girlfriends, and we’re very aware there will be many more.”

“Hell, for all we know he could be flirting with a girl right now.” Emily shrugs.

Jessica smiles weakly. “So you’re saying…”

“That if you do end up going out with our boyfriend, you’ll have to accept the rules we decided on when this special arrangement started.” Megan clarifies.

Emily picks up from there. “We decided to be open about our feeling with each other. If there’s something we don’t like, we talk about it. Also, we don’t keep secrets. Of course, jealousy is a no-go, too. David tries his best to give us equal attention, but there are weeks when he’ll happen to spend more time with one of us, and maybe next week it’ll be someone else.”

Jessica looks socked. “I’m sorry, don’t take this the wrong way, but… you’re being oddly supportive this. Are you really okay with me dating David?”

“He likes you. That much is obvious.” Megan says with a defeated smile. “He forgave you. He wants to be with you. The least we can do is give you a chance.”

Jessica’s eyes widen at that.

“You only get one chance.” Emily tells her firmly. “David is… naïve. Trusting. Even if he knows in his head you might have been lying to him, I know he’s believed everything you’ve told him.” Emily bites her lip and clenches her fist so tightly it shakes. “I swear, if you’re playing with him, I…!”

“I’m not!” Jessica immediately answers. “I swear I’m no playing with him! Everything I’ve told him is the truth! I… I’m in love with him! I know it’s sudden, I know I don’t have the right to, but I am! I see him with you two and I can’t help but wish I was a part of it. I… I want to make up for what I did to him. I want to make him happy, too.”

Even if she’s still skeptical, those words calm Emily down. “Again. One chance.”

“Thanks.” Jessica gives them an honest smile.

There’s a lull in the conversation. It awkward, but mostly because they’re unsure of where to go from here. Eventually, Megan and speaks.

“David wants us to get along though. Why don’t we go shopping tomorrow? All three of us?” She suggests. Surprisingly, they all agree.

After making plans for their Wednesday and deciding that if they want to get closer they might as well eat lunch together as well, they return to their classrooms when the bell rings.

What now?
