Intermission - An actual car meet.
Alice stopped the car in front of the house, with Mila right behind her. After a quick text announcing they were outside, they saw Fernanda coming out of the house, running excitedly. She was wearing a thick jacket, too, which was good because it was getting colder already. Alice reached out and opened the passenger door, inviting Fernanda in.
“We didn’t make you wait I hope?” Alice said.
“Nope. 8:00 PM on the dot.” Fernanda closed the door and tried to find the seatbelt.
“Ah, sorry, I changed the seatbelt for a harness. Here, let me help you.”
It was a bit awkward, but Fernanda managed to put it on properly. “Thanks. I knew that you had this car, but I had yet to see it. It’s so cool. It’s the… FD model, right?”
Alice couldn’t hold back her smile. “Yeah, it’s an FD. The third and last generation of the RX-7 line. You… know about cars?”
“Ah, um… not a lot, just some superficial stuff. There’s this racing anime I like and they explain some stuff. It’s from the 90s, though, so what little I know is likely outdated by now.”
“Well, this IS a 90s car.” Alice chuckled. “Ah, by the way, Mila’s in a call with us from the car behind us.”
“Hey Fern! How’re you doing?” Mila asked cheerily.
“I’m doing well, thanks.”
“Alright then, let’s get going. Mila, stay close to me, okay?”
“Sure, but not TOO close?”
“Right.”
It would be a 20 minute drive from Fernanda’s house to the mountain pass, and on the way the girls shared stories of how their week went. Frankly, Mila had the most to say, but Fernanda still shared some good news.
“Since I had to freeze a semester, most of my old classmates have gone ahead of me, but… I think I’m getting along better with my new ones. I started hanging out with these two girls that are really fun to be around.”
“Ugh, lucky you,” Mila said. “I get the feeling everybody at modeling school hates my guts.”
“What? Why would they hate you of all people?” Fernanda asked.
“Jealousy, I bet,” Alice said. “She’s gorgeous, talented and already has a modest internet following. To them she’s not just competition, but someone already ahead of them.”
“Okay, that makes sense,” Fernanda said.
“I swear I’m not trying to brag, but yes,” Mila said. “Everything they’re teaching us feels like basic stuff I can already do and it’s a little surprising that the others can’t. Still, it’s only the start and the last thing I want is to get complacent and get overtaken by fast learners.”
“That’s my girl,” Alice said, smirking.
“And how’s university for you, Alice?” Fernanda asked.
Alice sighed. “Not much to share, really. It’s a little boring. Everyone there seems to be super busy or keeps to themselves. I did make some friends, but other than that… It’s been pretty dull. It’s why I was looking forward to tonight.”
As they began to leave the city roads and go into the older paths out of town, one could already start seeing the shift in atmosphere. Fernanda and Mila looked out the window as they went up the pass, seeing groups of people hanging out behind the safety barriers, seeing cars of all types either ahead, behind them or driving past them. Classics, exotics, JDMs, sport…
“Oh, I know that one! That’s a Miata, right?” Mila said with glee, referring to one driving downhill.
“Yes, it is. They put a turbo on it, from the sound of it.”
“You can tell from just the sound?” Fernanda asked.
“Turbos are fairly easy to recognize.”
Alice sighed with nostalgia and just a bit of frustration.
“Did I… say something weird?” Fernanda asked.
“Oh, no, no. I was just remembering something. My… first date with Oliver was here. This is the type of event I invited him to, but… it got cancelled without me knowing, so we just hung out. The two of us. It was probably better that way, to be honest. We… grew closer a lot faster.”
“Did you fuck at the top of the pass with the city lights below you?” Mila asked, and Alice could practically hear the smirk. Fernanda looked like she wanted to know the answer, too.
“We didn’t have sex, no,” Alice said, grinning. “But we sure made out a lot. Didn't know kissing could feel so good.”
Fernanda giggled. “That sounds both romantic and hot.”
“It was,” Alice admitted. “I haven’t had the chance to invite him to a proper event, though. Meets this big don’t happen often.”
“What IS happening tonight?” Mila asked.
“A few races between local teams, mainly, but people take the chance to put on music, show off their cars, do some drifting or casual races… Basically, team battles give us the main event to make a meet out of.”
As if to help her point, they could already hear some music as they got closer to the top, the large rest area where everyone would have their cars parked.
“Now, if Alex is half the brother I believe he is, we will have saved us a couple of spots…”
And indeed he had. Alex’s supra was, ironically, fairly easy to spot thanks to the lack of cosmetics. Alice and her brother shared a similar sense of aesthetics and preferred to keep their cars a solid color. Next to it, two open spots reserved with orange cones. Alice and Mila parked there after Lina removed them.
“Hello girls,” Lina greeted them all with strong hugs and cheek kisses. “Glad you could make it.”
“This all looks so cool!” Mila said, glancing around.
Even more cars were parked here than what they saw on the way. German cars, Italian cars, Japanese cars… all tuned and looking flashy with everything from tame liveries to some Fernanda seemed to recognize at a glance.
“Hahaha! Is that Miku on that car!?” She laughed in excitement while looking at an S13 with a blue-haired anime girl on it.
“Oh, Oh! Alice, let’s put Yuria all over Oliver’s van!” Mila almost had to scream, both from excitement and from how loud the music was.
Alice burst out laughing, and imagining both Oliver’s and Noelle’s faces if they suddenly saw that only made her laugh more. At least until her darling brother poked her on the ribs and ruffled her hair.
“Ugh, hello to you, too,” Alice said, fixing her hair.
“What are your plans for tonight?” Alex asked. “Are you racing?”
Alice shook her head. “I brought people with me, so no.”
“Good. Better keep it casual tonight.”
“Why?”
“Because I have a feeling the tables have turned and that your boyfriend will kill me if something happens to any of you tonight.”
Alice could’ve argued, but decided to play into it this time. “Yes, he probably would.”
The siblings began to catch up on things as Lina showed Mila and Fernanda around without getting too far. But then someone called out to her brother.
“Alex? Is that you? What’s happening here?”
Both Alex and Alice turned to look. There, pulling aside on a motorcycle, was a young woman. She stopped her machine and took off her helmet, letting loose her long, very wavy, dark brown hair. She was very pretty, with dark eyes that matched her hair. She smiled with pink, pouty lips. She was wearing a form-fitting black leather racing suit that showed off her incredible figure. Curvy and fit, like Sarah. About as tall as Sarah, too, actually. Her chest seemed her size, as well. Big like Mila’s or Sarah’s, but not quite reaching Alice’s or Grace’s.
Only one thing ran through Alice’s head at that moment.
This girl was 120% Oliver’s type. Holy cow.
